Consolation Championship This game saw the Green Machine face another tough squad being the LNNL Canadians but by not giving up the Malmont Atoms showed some real style in the dying Bantam House League by Don Hurst Consumers Gas - 4 Emmersons - 1 When these two teams meet, anything can happen and that's just what did as both these teams played a tough checking game and close in play. The Gas Works hit the, scoreboard first on Dale Leask's goal after taking a pass from Slack. Then late in the first period again Slack carried the puck from his end zone, fed big Chris Menzies in the clear, and scored on Clarke low to his right side. With both teams giving no quarter, it wasn't until 28 seconds left in period two when Trevor Solomon hit the twine after break- ing up a pass play at centre ice. Midway in the third period, Steve Cobham after making a great save, and the rebound went to Danter who in turn, fired it over to Frank VanVegel who made no mistake -- but don't take anything away from Emmerson's, as they didn't quit, and finally they broke the ice behind Cobham as Joe Jackman scored with Darcy Head earning the assist. 1.GA. -3 Cochranes - 3 In this series, I felt that an upset could be in the making and I still feel this way after game one -- which resulted in a 3-3 tie, as neither team was giving the other a chance to break it wide open. IGA broke the tie up midway in the first period as Eric Douma after some great pass- ing between Orr and Watson, that put Eric in the clear, 1-01.G.A. Then with just 12 seconds left in the period, Rodway stole the puck then proceeded to feed Ron Halligan a pass and the period ended 1-1. In period two, the Trotters put together a real tight checking game and were able to take the lead after two periods of play 3-2, with Jon Rodway scoring after Ron Halligan passed from the corner -- - then Ed Toffin scored, unassisted after breaking up a rush at the Trotters blueline. The Horsemen scored as Rob Jamieson was able to beat Hobbs on the high side left. The third was one of those periods where one team was protecting and the other wanted it badly, as the 'bundle carriers of IGA were rewarded midway in the period when Sean Phillips broke up a pass play, then fed it across the ice to Chris Lavereau who in turn, fired it at the net, the goalie made a stick save, but the rebound landed on Gerry Douma"s stick -- what have we got here - a 3-3 tie. Both teams had some close chances but to no avail as both Jim Hobbs and Steve Cobham decided, this is where it ends. None of the téams play until March 20 but they'll all be in action next Saturday on March 15 in the house league tournament week. Teams are scheduled to play at: 8 / a.m.- Cochranes; 9 a.m. - Emmer-/ sons; 10:00 - Consumers Gas; 11:00 - IGA. ) Hey folks, if you want to see your grandchildren in action, now's the time! ay J / minutes to grab a 6-5 victory earn- ing the consolation championship. Scoring for the Green Machine is as follows: 1st period - Steve Laird unassisted, Duane Empringham assisted by Steve Laird; «nd period - Duane Empringham assisted by PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 11, 1986 -- 23 | Atoms three straight victories Jason Cochrane; 3rd period - Steve Laird assisted by Jody Logan and Sean McEnaney; Jeff Parry assisted by Gavin Cochrane; Jason Cochrane assisted by Jody Logan and Jeff Parry.
