Special events at local YMCA The YMCA in Port Perry has had an exciting Winter season. To close the season several special events are being planned as well as some new activities for the Spring. Pre-schooiers are always busy at the YMCA. An Easter party will be held on March 22 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Join the 'Y' for stories, games and an Easter egg hunt. In addition, a spring pre-school activity/craft morning will begin Friday, April 18th. Please leave your name at the YMCA office if you are interested. There has been several requests for a Kindergym/Gymnastics program from the Port Perry area. Beginn- ing April 3 at the Port Perry High School, a new program in Kindergym will be held. For school aged children, the YM- CA has organized a Floor Hockey League. This program has been most successful and thoroughly en- joyed by the coaches and par- ticipants. To conclude the season a junior and senior tournament is planned with ribbons for all par- ticipants. Also, a parent/player fun day has been scheduled so moms and dads can try their skills. Teens also have a special place at the YMCA. The Child Care or Babysitting classes in Port Perry and Blackstock will see about 30 graduates towards the end of March. Congratulations to these young people. For those interested in teen group activities and special events a youth group is being organized at the Y-Centre in Port Perry. One of the most popular teen activities is the monthly teen dance. This dance program was begun last summer by local volunteers and has proved most successful. The next teen dance is on March 14th. For adults the YMCA will be of- fering a Heart Saver-CPR course and an adult trip program this Spring. The Heart Saver CPR . course will be held in co-operation with the Durham Heart and Lung Association. This five hour course will be held Wednesday mornings, April 16 and 23. The Adult trip program is receiv- ing a good response. On April 12 we will be visiting Niagara Falls. Dur- ing the outing we will stop at the Oneida Factory Outlet, have lunch overlooking the Falls and sample selected wines at the Brights Winery. Our second trip on May 7.is to the Shaw Theatre at Niagara-on- the-Lake. Enjoy lunch at the Prince of Wales Restaurant, discover the shops and preview one of the new '86 productions at the Shaw Theatre. The third trip is to Mennonite Coun- try. Our first stop will bring us to the historic Mennonite Fair in New Hamburg. Then it is on to St. Jacobs for lunch at Storiecrock and shopp- ing. This trip leaves May 31. The Port Perry YMCA has taken on a '"'new look' this past season with programs and services for all ages.
