Wild time for Port Novice To begin a hockey filled weekend the J.T. Pearce Auctioneers hosted an exhibition game against the Orono rep. team. Although Port out played the Orono team, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Port's goals came off the sticks of Andrew Jones assisted by Chad Kearns; and Ken- ton LeFort with the assist going to Mike Labanovich. Good game boys! This game saw a change in posi- _ tions for Greg Thompson and Mike Pashley. As Greg donned the goalie gear and Mike took over right wing. Both boys enjoyed the change and play proved they played great in both positions! On Saturday the team travelled to Uxbridge and for their 1st game of the tournament Port faced off against the Oshawa Black Hawks. This game really got the boys (and fans) in high gear as after 3 periods of solid well played hockey the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The rules of this tournament state that if a game is tied after 3 periods of regulation time the teams will move into 5 minutes periods of sud- den death overtime with n goaltenders. Also no goals could be scored from outside the blue line! These rules made for some very tense moments but Port's Davy Bourgeois came through with the winning goal after 1!'2 overtime periods giving Port a well earned 1-0 victory. Super game boys. With this win Port moved up the championship ladder and faced off next against the Bracebridge team. Early in the 3rd period Chad put in the final of the game this time assisted by Brent Harper and Davy Bourgeois. Mike Pashley played outstanding in net nan~~ again coming up with his 2nd out of the day. Way to go Mikey! During the game Scott Heasman and Clay Scott teamed up proving to be an awesome pair mak- ing numerous rocketing shots from the point as well as doing a great job defending Port's net. Way to go boys! With this 2-0 victory over Bracebridge, Port then advanced to the championship game against the rival Stouffville team. Although the Novice No. 1's played good hockey, Stouffville had taken a 3-0 lead by early in the 3rd period. The offen- sive penalty killing and power play line of Chad Kearns, Davy Bourgeois and Brent Harper were kept busy as each team received 10 minutes in penalties apiece! Needless to say, this was a very physical game and it wasn't until there was less than 3 minutes re- maining in the game that Davy Bourgeois put Port on the board with a blistering shot from the blue line! With the play in the Stouffville end and time running out on the clock, Port's goalie was pulled in favour of a sixth attacker. Although Port had several chances on the Stouffville netminder, the opposition scored on our empty net making their lead 4-1. Port's Sandy Mark scored one more for Port but that wasn't enough and the game ended in a 4-2 victory for Stouffville. Nice goal Sandy! Port's defenceman Jay King made several good offensive rushes as well as playing a very solid game on defence. The team gave a good ef- fort throughout the tournament and made the Port Perry fans very pro- ud of their J.T. Pearce Auctioneers Congratulations boys!
