Bantams watch lead evaporate, settle for 4-4 tie by Mark Barkey On Wednesday February 13, the Goreski Insulation Bantam All-Star hosted their number one rivals from Uxbridge and had to settle for a 4-4 tie. With Clark Menzies, the coach of _ the team home sick, our trainer Todd Menzies took the wheel and steered us into a very close and ex- citing game. Port Perry was pumped up from the start, with AC- DC getting our blood flowing. The horn blasted, the game started, and Port took off like wild-fire. Port demonstrated good checking and passing which resulted in a goal from Warren Geer unassisted. Uxbridge then scored at the 5:49 mark to tie the game at one In the second period, it was Warren Geer again as he scored his forty-eighth, assisted by Phil McBride. The next goal came from Mike Sorley as the Uxbridge goaltender made a costly mistake. The puck rolled down to the Uxbridge blue line and the goalie took a big swipe at it as he came way out of his net. The stick just didn't connect and Steve Connors slapped at it and it went to Sorley who had an empty net to shoot at, and he made no mistake. Warren Geer scored his forty-ninth assist by Brad Menzies. Port went to their dressing room with high hopes and a commanding 4-1 lead and perhaps a little too confident. The third period roled around and Port lack- ed their first and second period stamina as Uxbridge exploded for three goals. Port needed to beat Ux- bridge by 3 goals to get home ice ad- vantage but couldn't do it, so Ux- bridge will have home ice in the play-offs. If Port can play as well as they did in the first and second periods, they should be very suc- cessful in the play-offs. We would also like to say 'Get Well" to Jamie Menzies who was absent as he was under the weather, so we hope you feel better soon, Jamie, because we could use your help! The colt is the son of Val de L'Orne and New colt a sign of spring It may be snowing and blustery outside, but spring has sprung at Windfields Farm. Traditionally, the first foal born at the world-famous horse farm, just north of Oshawa, hails the beginning of spring for all those involved. It's a busy time of year, made even more so by the number of visitors who drop by to visit the year's crop of new babies. "People go nuts when we get our first foal," laughed groom Ann Breckenridge. Carefully protective of her celebri- ty son, Gris Petite (French for Lit- tle Grey) keeps him clear of visitors, especially visitors with cameras, and likes to remind stable hands just who is in control of her son's im- mediate future. For now, the future holds constant feedings and exploring on wobby legs. Later on down the road, the colt could be yet another stakes winning stallion in Windfields stables.
