Mini- Olympics at YMCA The Durham Region Family YM- CA has two new programs schedul- ed for Monday, February 17, 1986: 'Winter Mini Olympics and pre- school/youth Gymnastics. As February 17th is a Region-wide - Professional Development Day for the public schools in Durham Region the YMCA is hosting its first annual Winter Mini-Olympics. This day long event will feature a varie- ty of outdoor and indoor activities including snow sculpture, snow rac- ing, dress-up competition, novelty games and much more. Please bring your lunch and we'll provide the hot chocolate. The program will be held at the Latcham Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a fee of $12.00. February 17th also sees the start of the YMCA's new gymnastic pro- grams at Cartwright Central Public School in Blackstock. The pre-school kindergym program introduces ac- tivities suitable to the physiological development of pre-school children. Children work oh the beam and mats. The youth program em- phasizes strength, balance and flex- ibility. Participants will be taught the basic skills on the box horse balance beam and mats. Both gym- nastic programs run once a week for eight weeks at a fee of $20.00. For more information on the Gymnastics or Winter Olympics programs, please call Margaret Geer at 985-2824.
