a TT Te Re Rain and warm weather put the shrink on the town's favourite topic of conversation last week, but the giant snowman still manag- ed an amazing ten feet in height (he towered over 11 feet when first made). Created by Sean Fewer (pictured with dog Tippy) and his girlfriend Kim Boumans, the snowman also bore a special message for drivers passing by its home on Regional Road 2, just north of Port Perry ---- if you drink, don't drive. See story for details. Freeze-out winners wee Margaret Snowman gets his point across It all started as something to do on a Sunday afternoon, when the January snow was just about perfect for snowman construction. Sean Fewer and his girlfriend Kim Boumans started the snowman on a small scale, at her parents house on Regional Road 2, just north of Port Perry. The project (pardon the pun) soon snowballed and by the time four and a half hours had gone by, the snowman was more than 11 feet tall. When the mission was ac- complished the pair sat back to ad- mire their handiwork and cracked open a couple of cold beers. For a joke, Sean stuck his bootle in the snowman's "arm," and chuckled about it until he and Kim realized that every car passing by on busy Regional Road 2 could see tue snowman with his beer. uddenly it wasn't so funny. "I never used to think drinking and driving was that serious a pro- blem but the way everyone's been talking about it lately has made me realize that it is serious," Sean a GM employee says. So they drew up a sign that read "If You Drink, Don't Drive', pro- mptly got rid of the beer bottle and put the sign in the snowman's hand instead. The response has been 'overwhelming. People talked about the statues- que snowman all week and it wasn't unusual for cars to honk as they drove by. With last weekend's thaw the snowman isn't as big as he once was, but during the week he was in his cold weather glory, the snowman made his point. Watson and A.
