Many are away taking delight in a warmer climate ... while some of us who stayed home are in the doldrums at present. This is the time of year when one needs a '""wee" bit of encouragement. What about a hobby to chase away the blues? Your correspondent has developed a new philosophy ... be pleasant every morning until 10 o'clock, and the rest of the day will take care of itself! How about that? I'll guarantee it will work wonders! Nestleton Afternoon UCW Meet The first meeting in the new year- 1986- was held at the home of Gwen Malcolm in Nestleton on January 14th. Unit Leader Jean Williams called the meeting to order with a cordial welcome and a New Year thought. Nine members answered the Roll Call "What did you grouch about today?' Many amusing answers were given. Helen Vine "presented the inspiring worship opening with hymn, "Blest be the tie that binds." Scripture was taken from Matthew 25: 25-29. Her wor- ship was entitled "Crumbs" by Amy Bolding, illustrating what can be done if one trys ... a bread pudding might be a special treat for hungry _ children made out of crumbs ... at times we feel or talents are just a few crumbs compared to the brilliant things we see others do. Marion Hall and Effa Stainton will continue with the study in February. Minutes were read by Secretary Leona Sadler and approved. During correspondence many notes of ap- preciation were read from those who had enjoyed Christmas Cheer boxes. Cards were signed for those ill and lonely. Many items of business were brought up, discuss- ed and decisions made. The meeting closed with Benediction and appetiz- ing refreshments were served by Jean Williams and Helen Vine and enjoyed by all. A vote of thanks was tendered by Mabel Cawker. Community Items Audrey Leishman of Reaboro, spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Neta Fish, Nestleton and attended Church and the luncheon and meeting following the service with her. Saturday evening, Merle Heint- zman, Blackstock, and Neta Fish, Nestleton, went to Lindsay Hospital to visit Heather Munroe, Sonya, who has been hospitalized with a bout of pneumonia. We extend "best wishes" to friend Heather for better health soon. Blue Ray Chapter Entertains District Deputy A small attendance at Blue Ray. Chapter for the January meeting due to poor weather conditions. Worthy Matron Sister Marguerite Mitchell and acting Worthy Patron Brother Wilfred Alexander of Oshawa extended a warm, fraternal welcome to the D.D.G.M. Sister Audrey De Beaupre of West Hill, who paid her official visit of Inspec- tion. She was escorted to the East by acting Conductress Stella Dennis. During the short business period, communications were received from many sources read by Secretary Marg Jeffrey. Folks received lovely boxes of Cheer at Christmas and many sent a note of appreciation and a donation. Isn't that what benevolent work is 'all about? A caring organization! Convenor- Elsie Wi... .c. After the completion of the Chapter business District Deputy Sister Audrey in- spected the work of the Officers. In * her remarks she paid tribute to each officer for the efficient manner in which the duties were carried out ... and made a few suggestions for fur- ther improvement. A very fine report indeed! Sister Katie Collins was welcom- ed into our Chapter and we trust she'll enjoy the many activities and the fellowship of the members. Be- ing an active member can open many doors and pave the way to a more enriching life. I wonder if we are aware of the immense value derived from being a member of the Order. When new members join - let us ask them to join in and get } involved. We commend convenor Marilyn Jones with her white elephant table - ... the sales are brisk and the money is rolling in. Good work! After the closing of the Chapter, a happy social hour ensured.
