The 1st period re- mained scoreless but in the 2nd period Port's Davy Bourgeois scored the first of the game assisted by Jay King and Jay Tredway. Then, in the 3rd period, Scott Heasman broke away and carried "the puck up the ice and scored the reassurer unassisted! Way to go Scottie! This ended the game with Port winning 2-0. . On Saturday the Auctioneers were off to Keswick where they met the Oak Ridges team. Port opened the scoring on a goal by Sandy Mark assisted by Mike Labanovich and Davy Bourgeois. Oak Ridges came back with 4 more goals to bring the score 4-1 by the middle of the 2nd period. Port never let up coming back and scoring with 2 minutes re- maining, Sandy Mark getting his 2nd of the day assisted by Brent Harper and Joey Broadworth. Way to play Sandy! With 16 seconds left in the 2nd period Port's Davy Bourgeois scored a beautiful goal unassisted ending the 2nd period - Oak Ridges 4, Port 3. Early in the 3rd period Oak Ridges snuck 2 more by Port's goaltender but Port answered back with a single by Brent Harper assisted by Jay Tredway. The game ended Port down 64. The whole team played. super hockey with special mention to Scott Heasman who played a terrific -game on defence. Way to go Scottie. On Sunday the Port Auctioneers again journeyed to Keswick for a rematch against' the Oak Ridges team. This game was one of Port's best games of the season with each boy playing a fantastic game. Although Oak Ridges opened the scoring early in the game, Port retaliated late in the period with a beautiful unassisted goal. The 2nd period saw Port taking the lead on a scramble goal by Brent Harper with Kenton LeFort and Brett Lawson picking up the assists. Shortly after this goal, Andrew Jones broke' away but the Oak Ridges goalie robbed him of a beautiful goal. Way to hustle An- drew! In the last minute of play in the 2nd period Oak Ridges tied the game but 26 seconds later Port's Kenton LeFort put his team ahead on an unassisted marker. Way to go Kenton! As the Keswick tournament con- tinued on December 28, the Novice No.1 were matched up against King City. This proved to be a well played hockey game with neither team Sein until the 3rd period. The Au uctioneers played super positional hockey and had many great passing plays. Port Perry opened up the scoring on a beautiful power play goal by Chad Kearns as he tucked it past the King City goal tender off a well ex- Lakers come close Scugog Realty Lakers dropped a 2-1 decision to O.M.C. of Peter- borough in the "A" Final of the Cavan Blazers Tournament in Millbrook. In order to qualify for the final the Lakers had to defeat teams from Millbrook and Newcastle in - preliminary games. In game one, the Lakers defeated Millbrook 5-3 on two goals by '"The Rat" with singles going to Tarbot- ton, Fitz and Disco. 'Giveaway gave goaltender Peter Naumienko numerous chances to show his great goaltending and Peter responded with saves on all but 3 of the 5 shots he faced. In game two, Newcastle provided the opposition with the Lakers com- ing out on top by a score of 5-0. Scor- ing in this game was limited to two players, Bob Tarbotton and Carl Fitzgerald. Both players had many fine chances but Fitz held the hot hand with 3 goals and several shots from the bench. Peter Naumienko earned the shutout, although Bubba claimed a share of the shutout, stop- ping a shot which got in behind Peter. In the final game, tight checking was the order, with O.M.C. scoring first on a deflection at the 8:23 mark of the first period. The Lakers came back to tie the score before the first period ended, (Linesman) Smart knocked the puck off the defenders stick and Fitz scored. The game remained tied un- til late in the final period when the Lakers were assessed 'a holding penalty with 2:52 left in the game. It took O.M.C. just 8 seconds to score the winner and claim the "A" divi- sion championship. The Lakers would like to thank the Cavan Blazers for a fine tournament and look forward to next year. P.S. Fitz won M.V.P. when Ken - PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Janvary 7, 1986 -- 23 Novice Selects busy over Xmas holidays ecuted pass by Davy Bourgeois. The team played another super game with all the boys giving 100 percent effort throughout the game. We, the fans, were very proud of the tremendous effort shown by the team. This win moved us up the ladder to play against a tough team from Sutton. This game saw Sutton take an ear- ly lead in the 1st period but Port answered back on the beautiful combined effort of Jay Tredway and Davy Bourgeois, with Jay picking up the goal. The rest of the game was Sutton's as Port was downed 4-1. The team should be very proud of the way they played hockey during this tournament. Despite being mat- ched up against of couple of very rough teams our team did not retaliate but instead capitalized.on the oppositions penalties. The Port Perry Curling Club was the scene Boxing Day for the First Annual Mens Bonspiel, sponsored by Re/Max Scugog Real Estate in Port Perry. Garnet Warriner's team totalled 45 points for the win with Ken Goreski coming second. With Garnet are Stan Zuly, Bob Strickert and Reg Hughes.
