MoJacks hot and cold in two weekend games A lack of consistency continues to hamper the Port Perry MoJacks as the Central Junior C League moves into the second half of the schedule The MoJacks went into Lindsay Friday might for a game against the Muskies and almost totally fell apart in the third period on the way to a 9-6 defeat Two nights later at the Scugog Arena, MoJacks hosted the Cobourg Cougars, a team batthng for first place, and they doubled the visitors 8-4 In both games, Brian Nicholson continued to hold a red hot scoring hand as he notched five points on Friday and six on Sunday Against the Muskies, the MoJacks looked hike they were going to run the Muskies right out the back door of the Kiwams Arena as they rolled up a 41 lead after just 16 minutes of play And it was Nicholson who clicked for all four goals for the MoJacks But Muskie captain Gary Howell was doing some scoring as well. He scored three in the first, including one at the the 19:59 mark. In the second period, the Muskies began to carry the play to the Mo- Jacks. and it was Howell who tied the score at 4-4 midway through the frame Although the Muskies enjoyed the better of the play for the rest of the period, it was MoJacks defensemen Rob Nicholson who scored at 15:56 on the power play to give the Mo- Jacks a 5-4 lead But in the third period, things went from bad to worse as the Mo- Jacks had all kinds of trouble in their own zone, giving the puck away and leaving the Muskie for: wards free to float around Ken Har- man at will The game was tied at 7.39 on a goal by the Muskies Mike Piggott Less than two minutes later, Jeff Johnstone gave the MolJacks the lead for the last time as he snapped Pee Wee B's split 2 On Sat Dec the 7th, the George Stone Real Estate Pee Wee B's played in the Woodville tournament and did very well for themselves In the final game they played Woodville and won 3 to 2.in over nme Scoring for Port were Jody Breen assisted by Ethan Lavereau and Ryan Free Doug Adams assited by Lee Philips Getting the winner in overtime was Brian Ap- pleby on a mce solo effort Dave Talbot played well in goal In the second game they played Oshawa and lost 4 to 0 This put them out of the tournament They played well in this game but just couldnt put the puck in the net On Sun they played a league game against Whitby and lost 5 to 2 Scoring for Port were Brian Ap- pleby assisted by Ryan Free and Kevin Mantel. Ethan lLavereau unassisted a shot to the top corner from a sharp angle. Lindsay tied it at 6-6 just 19 seconds later, and then scored three quick goals in the span of three minutes to walk to the 9-6 victory. The Muskies seemed to take charge of the game in the second period when they turned to a physical style of play, bumping the MoJacks at every opportunity. On several occasions, Ken Harman found himself all alone facing a swarm of Lindsay players around his net Back at the Scugog Arena on Sun- day night, the MoJacks broke open a close game in the second period with four unanswered goals, then added three more in the third as they breezed to an 8-4 win over the Cougars The line of Brian Nicholson, An- dy Sutch and Jeff Johnstone did the lion's share of the scoring with Nicholson getting four goals, Sutch a pair and Johnstone one. Paul But- terworth added the other Sutch had five points. while Johnstone had three for the mght's work Paul Goreski in the MoJacks net faced 33 shots and turned in a pret- ty good performance to help preserve the win The MoJacks now 13 points on a record of six wins, one tie and nine defeats The team is idle until this coming Sunday might (Dec 15 when the Port Hope Panthers pay a visit to the Scugog Arena The following mght, they travel to Cobourg Face off this Sunday is 7 30 P M On Saturday, December 7th, the Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens won all three scheduled games to win the Gold Medal in the Annual Kinsmen Tween/Belle Tournament held at Port Perry Arena. Our first game was against Whit- by Tweens. At the end of the first period we were losing 1-0 so the girls got hold of that ring and went on to win 6-5. The winning goal was scored in the last minute of play. Our goals were scored by Nicole Slack - 2 goals; Denna Lovering - 2 goals; and Lisa Levy - 2 goals. Assists were by Sylvia Durward - 1; Nicki Beare - 2; Linda Crawford - 1; Denna Lovering - 1 and Nicole Slack - 1. Great game girls! We knew we could beat Whitby. Our next game was against Stayner Tweens which was easier competition so made it an easier game for the girls. Goals were scored by Linda Crawford - 1; Sylvia Durward - 2; Lisa Levy - 3, Denna Lovering - 1; Kelly Menzies - 2 and Nicole Slack - 2. Assists were by Nicki Beare - 2; Heather Lawrence - 2; Kelly Menzies - 1; Linda Crawford - 1; Lisa Levy - 2; Nicole Slack - 1 and Denna Lover- ing 1. The Championship Game brought us again playing the Whitby Tweens, and as always was another see-saw game. Once again we were losing at the end of the first period 2-0, and once again Port took hold of that ring and never stopped until winning the game and the Gold 5 Medal with a score of 6-4. Goals for this tense and exciting game were scored by Lisa Levy - 4 goals; and Denna Lovering - 2 goals. Assists were by Nicki Beare - 1; Lisa Levy -1: Denna Lovering - 2; Nicole Slack 1 and Heather Lawrence - 1. You all played excellent Ringette in this tournament girls. Hope you enjoyed your party. Tweens Play Hockey Style On Wednesday, December 4th, the Chris Allen Aluminum Tweens travelled to Oakwood Arena to play against the Mariposa Tweens. Two Port Perry Petites, Denna Lovering and Kelly Menzies joined us for this game as we are down to 9 players for a while. Thanks girls for helping us out. This was the first game for our Tweens to try out the No Zone Rules and adapted fairly well to the hockey style of playing. These rules will be in effect for the month of December. Unfortunately we lost to Mariposa 5-4 but it wasn't from lack of trying. Our goals were scored by Lisa Levy - 2 goals; Nicole Slack - 1 goal; and Denna Lovering 1 goal. Assists were by Nicki Beare 3 assists and Nicole Slack 1 assist. Nice try girls! Results from the non-contact loop Galley Fish and Chips put on a strong team effort downing Com- pton T.V. 5-3. Leading the way for Galley was Bill Hurst with 1 goal and 2 assists; Dale Bronson with 2 goals and 1 assist; and Ken Little with 2 goals. Larocque took a first period lead on a goal by Ritchie lLeFort, assisted by Bubba McEachern Sportsland bounced back early in the second to tie the game at 1 on a goal by Wayne Norton, assisted by Rick Brooker Sportsland went ahead on an unassisted goal by Bill VanCamp who stole the puck from a Larocque player Larocque's tying mark came late in the second period off the stick of Ron Jeffey assisted by Ritchie LeFort The morning's most exciting game saw J&D Carpentry defeat Crandells Riverboat 3-2 Crandells opened the scoring on a goal by Reg Templeman, who let a blurring wrist shot go from the point "'Crandells goalkeeper Danny Mitchell still has not seen it~ Assisted by Ken Jeffrey J&D Carpentry came storming back with two goals by John Connors and Ed Olsen With less than 2 minutes to play in the game, Crandells tied the game at 2 on a goal by Ken Jeffrey, assisted by Dave Kay. J&D"s line of Dan Horner, Dennis Lycett and Wayne Fox put their act in gear with 35 seconds left on the clock as Lycett fed a pass to Fox who flew down his side of the ice and sent Horner in on a breakaway. Horner slipped around Crandells goalkeeper to net the winner. "Thanks" to both teams for a fine display of shooting, passing and outstanding goalkeeping by Danny Mitchell of Crandells Riverboat. Smith Contracting had little trou- ble in this game handing B.J. Donuts an 8-2 drubbing.
