On Saturday and Sunday November 30 and December 1. the Malmont Farm Atoms travelled to Bradford to play in their second tournament of the season. The weekend proved to be a tough one for the Green Machine as they met some very strong opposition and as a result after 3 games came home with one win and two loses which wasn't good enough to get into the championship rounds. GAME 1 In this game the Green Machine met a very strong club from Flam- boro. The game saw lots of skating but the Malmont Atoms were caught sleeping in the first period and had to play come from behind hockey the rest of the game. Finally the Green Machine tied the game in the third period at 3-3 but with only 14 seconds showing on the clock Flam- boro scored the winner and walked away with a 4-3 victory. Scoring for the Malmont Farms Atoms were in the second period, Jason Cochrane assisted by Brad Moase. In the third period Jeff Parry assisted by Jason Cochrane and Jody Logan. The final goal scored by Jeff Parry assisted by Jody Logan and Stephen Laird. Special Note: A M.V.P. award was given to Shawn Larocque who displayed some very fine saves bet- ween the pipes. GAME 2 In this game the Green Machine came out on the ice with a little more desire and as a result - skated to a 4-2 victory over a club from Richmond Hill. In the first period Jody Logan opened the scoring on nice passing from Lindsay Parry and Mike Sluggett. In the third period the Malmont Atoms came alive and scored three goals at the 8:41 mark. Jeff Parry scored a nice unassisted goal. At the 4:43 mark, Jason Cochrane scored assisted by Jody Logan. At the 2:11 mark, Jody Logan scored assisted by Jason Cochrane and Sean McEnaney. Special Note: The M.V.P. award was given to Jody Logan who displayed a lot of desire and hustle throughout the game. GAME 3 In this game the Green Machine were faced with a strong club from King City. The game saw lots of end to end skating but victory was not to be as King City were able to pop two quick goals in a span of 8 seconds and went on to a 2-1 victory. In the first period both clubs were held scoreless. In the second period Jeff Andrews blasted a shot past the King City goalie to open the scoring. In the third period with only 3 minutes remaining on the clock, King City scored two quick goals which stole the victory from the Green Machine. Special Note: The M.V.P. award was given to Jeff Andrews for displaying some very fine defensive plays throughout the game. The Malmont Farms Atoms play their next league game cn Friday, December 6 at 8 p.m. when they host Peterborough. On Friday November 29, the Mal- mont Farm Atoms played host to Port Hope and skated to a 3-1 victory. The first period saw all the scor- ing as Jason Cochrane opened the scoring on a nice unassisted effort. At the 5:54 mark Duane Empr- ingham scored on a nice pass from Jeff Parry. The final goal was scored by Jason Cochrane with the assist going to Chad Garvock. The Curling Corner by Scott Howey This past weekend Port Perry Curling Club held its Club Level Playdowns for the Labatt Tankard. Steve Foster's team of Ron Parish, Don Beaton and Ken Goreski and the team of Scott Howey, lan Griffen, Dave Roth, and Ken Jeffrey emerged as the winners. In the first round Foster defeated Jack Owen while Randy Scott down- ed Howey. Fosters win earned him a bye to the A side final. The se- cond round saw Scott beat Robin Parish and Howey eliminate Owen in the B side. Sunday morning action resumed with Foster dropping Scott to the B Side and Howey beating Parish. In the B side final Howey came out the winner over Scott. These two teams will be competing in the Zone Level at the Oshawa Curling Club starting on Saturday December 14. Please go and show your support. The Curling Club would like to thank the fans who were at the club on the weekend helping to make this a successful event. The Zone Level Mixed Competition begins this Friday night December 6th at the Curling Club. There are 18 teams competing for an A side and B side winner that will advance to the Regional Level. Play begins at 6:00 p.m. while the second draw starts at 9:00 p-m. Two teams start play on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. There are two Port Perry teams playing in this event. Ron Parish, Louise Haugen, Don Beaton and Mary Van Shaik start on Saturday while Ralph Fair- man, Kelly Evans, Randy Scott and Eve Johnston play at 6:00. Good luck to both of our teams. Ed Werenich won the Sun Life Bonspiel in Whitby on the weekend. Werenich defeated Stu Bennett 4-3 to win the $7,000 first prize. In the semi-finals Werenich beat Russ Howard 9-1 while Ben- nett downed Bob Turcotte 8-4.
