nr pr mtd WED -- OR i pote WY a Aaa mT a ---- Marilyn Douglas has had it up to here with hunters. The 55 year old widow who hives on Durham Road 8, west of Highway 12, has had hunters trespass on her property and on several occasions over the past couple of months, they have cut through her fences. "I've just had enough. I'm mad as hell about this,' she told the Star over the weekend. While admitting she 1s anti hunting on principle and would like to see all hunting banned in the populated areas of the Township, Mrs. Douglas said she is very con- cerned that when her fences are cut, the ponies she keeps on the 20 acre property get loose and wander out onto the Regional Road. "I'm afraid there is going to be an accident and somebody is going to get Killed," she said. She's lived on the property for almost 20 years and said the law re- quiring hunters to get written per- mission to hunt on private lands "is a big joke." "These guys walking around with guns in their hands just think they can do anything they want." she said angrily. By the time they arrived at the property the hunter was long gone. And Mrs. Douglas admits there isn't much they could do, in any event. Her problems with hunters have been on-going for the past several years. There is a duck pond on the property about 500 feet behind the house and Mrs. Douglas said several times hunters have been all around the pond. "They sit at the pond with their guns and beer bottles, and they say they don't know it's private proper- ty." she exclaimed. There are "no hunting' signs around the property, including several along Durham Road 8 which say words to the effect that "we shoot back." Mrs. Douglas is convinced the hunters who are breaking down her fences and trespassing on her land are not from this area. "I'm sure they're from the city. They just come out here and do welcome nstrusions onto her pro- perty, Mrs. Douglas admits she doesn't have too many options open ' : . yo \ - A we PPE "A el, TY ot Some ons i ho: savonce " a A---- Pn ---- ek to prevent similar things from hap- pening in the future.
