During the very busy weekend, they attended the Borelians Play and Christmas party. A very pretty wedding was solem- nized in the Blackstock United Church on Saturday afternoon when Leona Bonsma and Eric Kristensen were united in marriage by Rev. D. Davis. The reception and dance was held in St. Gregory's Church Hall, Oshawa. Following- a honeymoon Carribean cruise, Eric and Leona will be living in Oshawa. Walter and Audrey Wright attend- ed the baptism of Holli Kassandra, daughter of Elaine and Grant Young at the St. Timothy's Anglican Church, Hamilton on Sunday mor- ning. Following church a family gathering was held at the home of Grant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Young. In attendance were Walter and Audrey's four daughters. Lorna and her husband Pras Sumantri, from London, Lois of Dunsford, Eleanor and her friend Timothy Chipman of Toronto, Elaine and Grant Young and baby Holli. Walter and Audrey had been Saturday overnight guests of Vera Forder. Elaine and Holli returned home with them for a week's visit. The Morning Unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Eleanor Werry with a good attendance. After a warm welcome and thank-yous by Unit Leader Lois Luke, Eleanor led in worship on the theme- If You Ask Me Silence Can Be Eloquent. The General Meeting of the U.C.W. will meet at the Church on 'ednesday, November 27th at 1:30 when the guest speaker will be Mrs. Marilyn Schamerhorn who will be speaking on pornography. The next meeting will be a Christmas lun- cheon at the home of Eileen McLaughlin when each lady is ask- ed to bring a gift for the less for- tunate and also a handmade gift fo a gift exchange. After congratulating Joyce for her recent election victory, Lois asked Joyce to speak on the topic of Education. Joyce pointed out the unbelievable changes in education over our lifetime changing from the single school section to the vast Durham Board of Education. There are 20 trustees on this Board, eight of whom are new following this year's election. The Durham Board is the second largest employer in Durham Region, behind the leader G.M. There are about 31,000 elemen- tary students in 79 public schools and 18,000 secondary students atten- ding the 17 high schools in our area. It costs $2824.01 per year to educate each public school student and $3878.20.a year for each secondary student. Joyce pointed out the changes in goals of education over the past decades as well as the constant changing of methods in the field. Many topics were covered in the question period which pointed out the interest the members have in the field of education. Clarence Masters- 75; Low- James Emerton Draws- Nerta Masters, Ethel Goble, Ethel Goble On Monday the Senior Citizen's Club held a potluck dinner for all older residents of the area Only twenty-eight attended the day which began with a delicious dinner at noon followed by an afternoon of cards and visiting. Graham Duff has been transfer- red to Mount Sinai Hospital, to continue his treatment. He was able to spend the weekend home which must have been a thrill for his wife Barb and two children. Beads made Christmassy The Louise Patterson Handicraft Guild held their November meeting on Wednesday the 13th in St. John's Hall. The high point of the workshop was a very interesting demonstra- tion by Mrs. Moore and Mrs. McCart from Lewiscraft using beads in making Christmas or- naments. There was also an ex- cellent display of handmade articles. The meeting on December 11th will take the form of a Pot Luck Lun- cheon, followed by a Christmas pro- gram. Visitors are welcome. Music for much relief A program of Christmas music will be presented by the Oshawa Festival Singers in conjunction with the congregation of Knox Presbyterian Church in aid of relief efforts for survivors of the Colum- bian volcano disaster. This concert will be held at Knox, 147 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, on Sunday evening, December 8th at 8 p.m. This is a free-will concert and a col- lection will be taken, all proceeds going to the Columbia Relief Fund. Special guest soloist will be Miss Janet Holton. Everyone is welcome. Your presence will help in a small way to relieve the suffering of those in the disaster area.
