Meeting with the Moderator This was the second get together this week for the Presbyterial ex- ecutive members. On Monday, November 1th, it was a very special privilege to meet briefly with the Right Reverend Robert Smith, Moderator of the United Church of Canada. The Rt. Rev. Smith, minister of Shaughnessy Heights United Church, Vancouver, British Colum- bia, told the UCW "my job is to give heart to the church, encouragement, to represent the church - (I shall go to Zimbabwe in two weeks time), to native peoples listen to the church, and I chair meetings of General Council." In answer to "what are the most ask- ed questions?"', Rt. Rev. Smith said, ""the first is why does the Church in- volve itself in politics and issues?" Rev. Smith's answer is, "not to get involved is to side with things as. they are,"" and he goes on to il- lustrate with stories and examples cited from experiences in his worldwide travels. "The second most asked question is regarding in- clusive language,'"' Rev. Smith told the women, but time did not permit an expanded discussion of the sub- ject. "'In a world where many do not know wholeness, God is on the side of the broken," Rev. Smith believes.
