I've lived in Ward IV for 31 years and have been active in communi- ty affairs. I ran successfully for Ward IV councillor in 1976 and served a two year term. After my term, I pur- chased a dairy farm that we live on to-day. I ran it successfully for 5 years. Jim, who has managed the fami- ly feed and transport business for many years has been a very active member of his community. He 1s a member of Blackstock United Church where he served as Treasurer, on the Board of Stewards, and at present a member of the Session. He is a life member of Fidelity Lodge, Port Perry, serving as Master in 1967. Jim has been directly involved in community activities as a member of the Community Hospital for ten years, including three years as Chairman. At present he is a member of the Hospital Foundation Board. Jim lives in Blackstock with his wife Dorothy and two children, Anne and Frederick. His activities outside Scugog Township include Treasurer of the Ontario Grain and Feed Dealers' Association, and as a Director of the Ontario Milk Transport Association. I am aware of the needs of the Elec- torate, particularly the Lakeshore Area. The road conditions, police response and protection including ambulance service should be improved. The drainage and road system of the Lakeshore Area of Ward 4 needs immediate attention. I am very con- cerned about the lack of enforce- ment of by-laws concerning proper- ties that have been abandoned and neglected in Ward 4. In recognition of the International Year of the Youth, the Royal has named Steve Fonyo one of its youth ambassadors. Mr. Fonyo will be grand marshal of the Royal parade in downtown Toronto, November 6, and will also attend various youth- related activities at the Fair. Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Kent will officially open the RAWF Horse Show, November 8. Guard of Honor at the ceremonies will be The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, of which the princess of Colonel-In-Chief. More than 2,500 young com- petitors from across Canada will also be attending the Fair, making the Royal one of the largest Youth Year programs in Canada this year. Youth will also be an important component of the Royal parade. The Royal, the largest fair of its kind in Canada, will house more than 10,000 animals and feature 12,000 exhibits at the 27-acre com- plex at the Royal Coliseum. More than 2,000 head of beef, dairy and market cattle, including a cow recently purchased for more than $2 million, will be entered in various competitions. Most of the competi- tions this year will feature a youth contingent. Young people will also be taking part in butter sculpture competition, square dancing, public speaking and a fashion show. The Royal will open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 am. to 9 p.m. Sunday. General admission, available at the door, 1s $5.00 for adults; $3.50 for students 12 and over; and $2.50 for children. Senior citizens will be ad- mitted for $2.00 November 7 and 8 General admission prices do not in- clude the Horse Show Among the many other highlights of the Royal is the Field Crop Com- petition, which will include an insect collection competition this year.
