a ha TI ---- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 29, 1985 -- 3 Candidates chasing votes (From page) ed to vote more than once. The answer is no. Township administrator Earl Cuddie, who serves as returning of- ficer for the municipal election, points out that no matter how many pieces of property an individual may own, he or she can only vote in the ward of residency. A non- resident who owns more than one piece of property may choose which ward to vote in, but still only has one vote. - For those people who may be away on election day, November 12, there will be one advance poll an November 2 at the municipal office on Perry Street. This poll will be open from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. After managing the Ted E. Bear toy store on Queen Street for the past two years, Christina Gerber bought the business on October 1, with her husband Bill. Christina says that Ted E. Bear is proud of his new "'parents" and invited everyone to a big open house at the store November 8-10. Regulations permit voting by pro- xy, but only if one of three re- quirements are met. Illness with a valid medical certificate; atten- dance at an out of town educational institute; away from home if oc- cupation is in transportation (i.e. a bus or truck driver, etc.). Appropriate forms for proxy voting are available at the municipal office any time up to elec- tion day. Most people in a municipality who go out to vote spend no more than a couple of minutes in the polling sta- tion on election day. All voters will receive the follow- ing ballots: mayor; regional coun- cillor; area councillor: ward coun- cillor and school board. Public School supporters in Scugog will elect two candidates this term. Although the election is now just over two weeks away, preparation has been underway for the last several weeks. There will be 31 polling stations throughout Scugog, and a staff of about 75 people are needed to con- duct the election. The cost to Scugog for printing ballots, voters lists, ren- ting halls and so on will be ahout $20,000 this year. On November 12, the polls will open at 11:00 A.M. and remain open until 8:00 P.M. All returns will be phoned to the staff at the municipal offices, who in turn will forward the results to the election night headquarters at the Latcham Centre. Coalition city rally The Coalition for Public Educa- tion will be holding a rally at Queens - Park this coming Saturday, November 2, starting at 1:30 P.M. There will be several guest speakers on hand for this rally and the theme will be the 'preservation of public education in Ontario," and the ramification of Bill 30 which ex- tends separate school funding to grade 13.
