The Masonic Hall in Port Perry was filled with nearly one hundred big and little brothers and sisters, association directors and guests at 9:00 a.m. who sat down to eggs, ham and lots of coffee. Big Brother president Keith Elliott welcomed all those attending and in particular Durham Regional Chairman Gary Herrema, Mayor elect Gerri Lynn O'Connor of Ux- bridge and Mayor Jerry Taylor of Scugog. Mr. Elliott explained how the association was operated and the importance of their fund raising ef- forts during the year. 'We get most of our operating expenses through our Big Brother's Bowlathon held in February," Mr. Elliott explained, "but we also raise money at our Beef Bar-B-Q at Festival Days and receive donations throughout the year." Mr. Elliott said that the associa- tion is always recruiting and look- ing for new big and little brothers and sisters, and he thanked everyone for their patience during the past year which has been tough for matching because of a lack of recruits. He emphasized that the matching of a big brother/sister and a little brother/sister is very impor- tant and there are numerous follow- ups after a match to make sure it is working out for both parties. Following Mr. Elliott's address, there were numerous awards and presentations made for various events during the past year and then everyone was treated to an hour of entertainment by ventriloquist Beaulah Buchwald and 'Sparkles' of Oshawa. / hy, 7 fey al ag ©] pe SN __\ | ™ / x - ~--J "Do | ask what you're going to do with the money when | make a deposit?' / George Zenglein (back left) presented first-year ~~ Marilyn French.
