Randy Scott, who has lived on Scugog Island for the past 14 years, told the Star that if elected, he would like to see a freeze for at least three years on re-zonings of agriculture land for residential use. He said he believes this tem- porary freeze is necessary because "there have been enough re-zonings on the Island already." Mr. Scott taught science at Cart- wright High School for 12 years and was assistant science department head at Port Perry High School last year. He is now on a one-year sab- batical from teaching. He said there are several issues of concern to residents of Scugog Island, including the overall quali- ty of Lake Scugog, response time for police and ambulance emergencies, and the need for better ditching and more culverts in residential areas to help prevent flooding in the spring of the year. Referring to the quality of Lake Scugog, Mr. Scott said one thing the local council must do is "use all the influence possible' to pressure the Trent-Severn Waterways Authority to keep the water levels high during mid-summer. He said Scugog is a "threatened lake,"' and strong pressure must be exerted on the federal and provincial governments to protect this lake. He said he doesn't buy the argu- ment that there is no money to clean up Lake Scugog. 'They have money for acid rain lakes, so why not here? This lake is threatened,' he stated. Although he called it a temporary measure, weed spraying by the local council should be increased by spending more money. In reference to the response time by police and ambulance, Mr. Scott said he can cite examples of dispat- chers who apparently were not familiar with certain areas on (Turn page page 9) ra a Y 8 DOG GROOMING by Marylynn formerly seme ae) 263-8527 ra Re Coit cnr at or Serine, BE --
