But the MoJacks got a late goal / Jacks did the honours. Just after this face-off the teams observed a moment's silence in memory of long time MoJack supporter Bill Mark, who passed away this fall. from Jett McColl and won the home opener 7-6. The team now sports a 2-1 record in the early going of the Junior C season. (See story for details) by John B. McClelland The Fort Perry MoJacks moved into the win column with a pair of weekend victories over the Lakefield Chiefs and the Lindsay Muskies. On Friday night in Lakefield, the MoJacks were led by captain Brian Nicholson who hit for the hat-trick en route to a 5-3 victory. And in the home opener Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, Nicholson slammed in two power play goals as the MoJacks nipped the Muskies 7-6. The five weekend goals for Nicholson gives him nine in three games and it looks like he's already taking dead aim at defending his league scoring title. In the game Sunday night against the Muskies, Port Perry twice had two goal leads, and the two teams were knotted at six each until late in the final frame. The winner was scored by defenseman Jeff McColl on a long shot from the point with James Myette and Andy Sutch drawing the assists. Paul Butterworth opened the scor- ing at 2:36 of the first with a quick back-hand that rattled in off the goal post. Vaughan McKee did some nice work along the boards to come up with the puck and fed Jeff Duncan in front of the Lindsay net for the MoJacks second goal at 7:35. The Muskies scored at 11:06 when Paul Ellis clicked on a power play, but the MoJacks took a 3-1 lead at 15:07 when Myette found the range from 15 feet out. Ellis scored his second of the night at 19:59, just as the buzzer was soun- ding. It was a two on one break. Nicholson got his first at 3:18 with a hard shot from 30 feel lo make it 4-2. But the Muskies battled back with two goals to tie the score, both with the MoJacks playing two men short. Nicholson's second goal at 6:58 was a carbon copy of his first, a blistering drive from just inside the blue line. Rob Sedore made it 6-4 at 14:54 when he drifted a screened shot through traffic. But the Muskies fought back again with goals by Ellis and Dan Kearns to leave the game tied at six after 40 minutes. McColl's game winner with a lit- tle over six minutes to play was the only scoring in the third period. The MoJacks ran into an avalan- che of minor penalties as referee Frank Robinson called everything in sight. MoJacks had 20 minors, while the Muskies were hit with 15 trips to the box. The referees in the Junior C loop this season are cracking down hard on infractions where the stick is in- volved, and there is also a new rule banning body checks from behind. Ken Harman had a busy night in the MoJack cage as he faced 42 shots, including 22 in the middle frame. Newcomer James Myette displayed his play-making ability with four assists. Vaughan McKee and Andy Sutch each had two assists. On Friday night against the Chiefs, Port Perry got three goals from Nicholson with Butterworth and Mark Goreski chipping in singles. Harman faced 40 shots in this one and came up with some fine stops to give the team the victory. In other Junior C action, Bowmanville Eagles romped over Uxbridge 9-2, Lindsay defeated Cobourg 8-2, and last week Bowmanville easily dumped Port Hope by a big score. Just before the opening face-off Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, there was a moment of silence in tribute to Bill Mark who passed away this fall. It was a classy gesture by the team in memory of Bill who was a great fan and sup- porter of Junior hockey in Port Perry and community sports in general. Sporting a 2-1 record after these games, the MoJacks take to the road Friday night for a game in Ux- bridge, and then host the tough Lit- tle Britain Merchants Sunday night at the Scugog Arena. There's not much love lost bet- ween the Merchants and MoJacks going back to last year's great playoff, and the game this Sunday night should be a good one Face off 15s 7:30 P.M.
