/ BRAD HEINTZMAN Brad Heilntzman seeks Ward 3 seat PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, October 16, 1985 -- 3 Off the sidelines and into the ring Stating that he can 'no longer sit on the sidelines and complain," Brad Heintzman will seek the Ward 3 (Scugog Island) seat on Township council when municipal elections are held November 12 Mr. Heintzman, 63, has been a resident of Stephenson's Point for the past seven years and 1s staun- chly opposed to a proposed subdivi- sion development on the east side of the road at Stephenson's Point. And he has been openly critical of the fact that Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor is a financial partner in that proposed 22 lot subdivision. "1 have been disappointed with the council's performance on several issues. I am not anti- development by any means. but | don't think council should be chop- ping up rural areas and changing by-laws," he told the Star this week Mr Heintzman added that he would not want to see incumbent Ward 3 councillor Don Cochrane go back in office by an acclamation Mr Heintzman said he has been thinking seriously about running for office for the past several months and made up his mind.over the long weekend. He is originally from Toronto where he served a term on the Forest Hill Village council back in the 1950's, but has been a resident of Scugog Township for the past 17 years. Grierson to challenge Hall for Ward 2 seat Roy Grierson, Port Perry com- munity activist, announced that he will be running for the Ward 2 seat (Port Perry). Mr. Grierson is the present treasurer for Scugog Community Care, for the Lake Scugog Historical Society, and for the Port Perry Senior Citizen Club. He serves as a volunteer driver for Scugog Com- munity Care and Meals on Wheels. He is a member of the Scugog Social Planning Council. Roy and his wife Doris moved to Scugog Township in 1976 after sell- ing his dry cleaning business. Since then Roy has been President of the Pine Ridge Garden Club, First Chairman of the Scugog Communi- ty Care Advisory Board and Presi- dent of the Port Perry Senior Citizens. Before moving to Port Perry he lived in Caesarea and was a member of the Blackstock Fair Board and Blackstock Curling Club. Roy Grierson's community role has included many activities outside as well as inside Scugog. He is the Assistant Treasurer of the Durham *rek kkk USELESS WORRY Don't take your problems in this life too seriously ---- they're never as bad as you may think they're go- ing to be SANTA CLAUS PARADE Region Community Care, as well as Chairman of the Durham Region Senior Games Committee. He was the Scugog representative on the Durham Region Community Care Board of Directors and also a member of the Durham Seniors Council. Mr. Grierson believes that there are important issues facing voters in Port Perry. As a member of the Scugog Council he would work to preserve municipally owned lakefront property for parkland; he would investigate the possibility of establishing a recycling depot. Roy believes that there is a real need for more housing, particularly affor- dable housing, with emphasis on co- op housing and consideration given to people with special needs. He feels that the downtown lawn bowl- ing green should be developed as a mini park when the bowlers move out; he would encourage the Seniors to develop and maintain their own drop-in center. Roy wants the next council to work to get foot care clinics reestablished and to persuade regional, provincial and federal governments to abandon their trend of limiting health care grants Roy Grierson's community ac- tivities have made him aware of the concerns and desires of Port Perry ratepayers ad Port Perry Fairgrounds November 30 and float registration A.
