22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, October 16, 1985 Sports The Port Perry MoJacks got into a shoot-out last Thursday night in Port Hope and lost 9-7 to the Panthers. For the MoJacks, it was the first regular season game in the Central Junior C Hockey League and the team was thin along the blue line as two regulars were out of action and a third missed the final two periods. Jeff McColl was out of the line-up with a leg injury suffered in a pre- season match and Vaughan McKee was sitting out a suspension from an exhibition game altercation in Lindsay. But the MoJacks managed to bat- tle back in the third with four straight goals to cut the margin to 9-7 and make the game respectable. Captain Brian Nicholson, last year's league scoring champ is off to a quick start as he clicked for four of the MoJacks seyen goals. He hit for two in the first period and two more in the third. All interschool teams were in competitive action and the Rebels have a mixture of results. On Tuesday PPHS hosted a total of 8 teams from four schools within the Durham Region and LOSSA league. On the girls side the Basket- ball team hosted a triple header against Donevan. The Midgets started off the games by dominating the play and a superb team effort winning with ease. The score was 35-9. The Juniors came up against their long time rivals and couldn't take hold of the game and lost 47-17. The Seniors finished up by squeak- ing through, coming back from quite a deficit at first quarter to take hold of the win 40-36. The Field Hockey team was forc- ed to host the play against Eastdale and Ajax at the Soccer Fields. The girls just couldn't rally to get a goal against Eastdale, last year's LOSSA finalist. The team had a few good chances but couldn't capitalize on them. PPHS showed more of its strength tying Ajax H.S. 1-1 with the goal by Heather Muir. The girls ex- hibited outstanding defensive play in both games that held off most rival offensive attacks. On Tuesday the boys' soccer and junior volleyball teams hosted McLaughlin Collegiate. On the volleyball courts the Juniors had many close matches but could only win one game to McLaughlin's five. The team has good individual move- ment and play but more work together as a team is needed. The Senior Volleyball squad was the only team to travel on Tuesday and were hosted by Stouffville. The Rebels played five hard fought games with some long and exciting rallies. Un- fortunately, PPHS lost some of the key points and came up short losing 3-2. These were very disappointing losses to three PPHS teams. The boys hosted three Henry St. teams on Thursday. The Junior volleyball team played three long and slow matches. Each game was very close and Port Perry pulled through with a 2-1 win. On the Senior court the play was drawn out with many good rallies. PPHS had some very poor serving that resulted in a lack of enthusiasm. The Rebels went down to defeat 3-1. Both volleyball teams have just a few more practices and exhibition games until their respective LOSSA tournaments. Keep up the work! On the soccer field only the Junior were in play and the team had trou- ble with its offensive and lost 5-0. Tom Crosier, the goalie for PPHS, played a great game, saving the team from a greater loss.
