Led by Gord Coupland on trumpet, and John Orde on clarinet and tenor sax, the rest of the group will include Eldon Wooflcock on guitar, Bill Turner on bass and Steve Kestashuk on the drums. In a recent interview, Mr. Orde and Mr.Coupland described their music as 'mainline jazz' from the 1940's, 50's and 60's. Mr. Orde is a native Port Perry son who has been playing music pro- fessionally for nearly half a century, starting Ward ll seat vacant in 1936 when he joined a band in Montreal. He played with an Army Band during the war years, went on the road with Mart Kenny right after the war, and then in 1947 was co-leader of the band at Club Norman on Adelaide St. in Toronto, the first night club in that city to sell liquor. That continued for about five years, and he finally recalls when NBC radio used to broadcast live from the Club Norman. Mr. Coupland has a long history in music as well, starting when he was 12 years old in Cottrell won't run Ward 2 councillor Jack Cottrell has all but ruled out any possibility that he will seek re-election to Scugog Township council this November. Eldon Woodcock now lives in Port Perry, and while he has been in business in Oshawa, Mr. Orde described his guitar work as very accomplished. Steve Kestashuk on drums is also from Oshawa, and in his early '30's, is the youngest member of the quintet. They are all looking forward to October 5. And if it works out well for the group, they hope to get together again in the spring and perform at least once a month in the Port Perry area. While such hits as "'Sunny Side of the Street," "Back Home in Indiana," and "Sweet Georgia Brown" will be part of the repetoire, they'll also change pace with the Latin sounds of Bosa Nova jazz.
