Last Saturday after- noon, area politicians took part in a ribbon cut- ting ceremony to official- ly "kick off" Library Week, and the many volunteers who con- tribute greatly to the suc- cess of the local library were honoured at a reception. Some of the events that will take place this week at the Memorial Library include a special reading this Wednesday evening at 7:30 P.M. by Canadian author Constance Beresford-Howe. She will be reading from her latest book. Members of the friends of the Library group presented a cheque for $500 to the library. This group includes Bobbie Drew, Sheila Talbot, Joanne Fowler, Gail Chellew, Jean Jackman and Barb Stewart. The cheque was ac- cepted gratefully by librarian Judy McColl. Some of the many ac- tivities done by volunteers for the library includes delivery of books to senior citizens, travel club program, storytimes, programs for pre-schoolers, organiza- tion of displays and art shows, and the repair of books and shelving.
