The pat on the back for the firm of Totten, Sims, Hubicki came Monday afternoon, three weeks after of- ficials with a develop- ment company had Uxbridge youth killed in crash An 18 year old Ux- bridge youth was killed last Thursday evening when the car he was driving went out of con- trol and hit a hydro pole on Concession 7, just south of Uxbridge. Durham Regional Police say Michael Wat- son of Beech Street, Ux- bridge was northbound about 7:50 P.M. when the accident took place. He was alone in a 1981 Chev Citation, driving a straight stretch on the Concession Road. Jennifer Currie (705) 357-3204 Stonehouse Folk Mnt RR. 2, OAKWOOD 2 miles east of Manilla Corner of No. 7 & 46 the SLO\( criticized the cost of engineering and other inspections for the Cawker Creek housing development in the nor- th end of Port Perry. "I want it on the record that the Town- ship is satisfied with the explanation of the billing and more than satisfied with the work provided (by consultan- ts) for Scugog over the years," said councillor Lawrence Malcolm Monday afternoon, after an hour long meeting in open council with Peter Eberlee, a senior manager with Totten, Sims, Hubicki, and Ron Patchell, an engineer with the firm. The meeting Monday was called in response to allegations three weeks ago by Peter Koropisz of Carlan Developments and Tony Cesaroni, owner of the development company. Mr. Patchell told council that the amount billed by Totten, Sims, Hubicki for the entire project has been $26,800, not the figure of $39,000 given by the developers three weeks ago. "All the invoices on this project have been reviewed and double- checked," said Mr. Pat- chell. He then gave councillors a detailed breakdown of exactly what work was done by the consultants for that $26,800. He said it is $55,000, and when members of council questioned such a wide discrepancy, Township administrator Earl Cuddie said that he can vouch for the fact the figure is indeed $55,000. Three weeks ago, Mr. Koropisz and Mr. Cesaroni were most angry at an invoice their company received for just under $1000 for work between April and June of this year. Mr. Patchell offered a detailed breakdown of that invoice, stating $600 of it was for inspections of lot grading plans, work on the conversion of industrial lots to residential, and several discussions with Town- ship staff over matters will run again (From page 1) Scugog Township ser- ving as Mayor from 1974 to 1978 when he was defeated by Jerry Taylor. He came back in 1980 to win the Regional seat and was re-elected again in 1982 in a three way race with former councillor Don Crosier and former Education Board chairperson Yvonne Christie. Councillor Malcolm's announcement Monday afternoon ends speculation that he might be thinking of get- ting out of politics when the present term ex- pires. Just three weeks ago, he told the Star he hadn't made up his mind what he would be doing in November. The only other can- didate who has declared publicly an intention to seek the Regional seat is Mr. Crosier, a member of local council in the mid 1970's. Mrs. Christie has said she will be seeking a seat on council in the November 12 election, but has declined to say what seat. a. Following the presen- tation by Mr. Patchell and Mr. Eberlee, Mayor Jerry Taylor said it was unfortunate that the consultants had not been in the council chambers when the allegations were raised three weeks ago. Councillor Harvey Graham said that if council is satisfied with the explanation given at Monday's meeting, "there is no reason why this matter should go any further." Mr. Eberlee told council that the con- sulting firm's costs "are open to an audit by the Township at any time." Earlier in the meeting he said the firm "has always tried to protect the interests of the Township, and has never in any way tried to impose more finan- cial burden than necessary on the person paying the bills." = Hearing He said the allegations made in a public council meeting were damaging to his firm's professional reputation, and "not worthy of the quality of work provided to the Township over the years." lid (entre ¢f Port Perry Dennis J Hogan ann Hearing Aid Consultant Dr E.Mannen"s Office - 24 Water St S Lakeview Plaza, Port Perry, Ontario LOB INO 985-9192 INTIACS - BUICKS GMC TRUCKS 985-3003 at 8% i FINANCING 5 -- Acadian 5-dr.
