22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed. September 4, 1985 ~ Legion decks Cold Port Perry Legion travelled to Coldsprings to take on the Senior 'B' entry in the 1st game of the best of 3 league semi- finals and came away with a solid 5-0 victory. Port was led by the strong arm of pitcher Lawrie Williams who tossed a 3-hitter keeping Coldspring off balance all night This was perhaps Port's best all round performance all year with strong pit- ching, solid defense and timely hitting. The Legion team got on the board when Grant Jackson doubled and came home on Jay Williams' RBI single in the 4th inning. In the 5th inning, Jackson's hot bat drove in 2 more runs widening the lead to 3-0. Coldsprings changed pit- chers removing Roger Cole and replacing him with Wayne Wells. Port Perry is hosting Coldsprings Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Joe Fowler Park in game 2 and if necessary, game 3 will follow at 8:30 p.m. The winner of this series will do battle with the Oshawa Jr./Whitby Legion winner in a best of 5 league final. The other semi-final is cur- rently tied at 1 game each On the Labour Day weekend Port Legion at- tended the Barrie Fastball tournament and competed in the open tournament winning one while losing two. Port won their 1st game 5-0 on the strength of Bill Owen's 3 run homer and a strong pitching perfor- mance by John Annis. Intermediate 'C' Tournament in Jarvis and faces Caledonia in the opening game of the tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday September 14th with the winners going against the Garden River/New Liskeard winner at 12:30 p.m. The other half of the draw has Petrocia playing Jarvis and Port Elgin playing Bath.
