Pine Ridge will host blind golfers Pine Ridge Golf Course in Prince Albert will be the scene August 10, for a umque kind of tournament. About 25 golfers are expected to be on hand for the event, and they'll look pretty much like golfers everywhere, clubs, bag, golf balls and SO On But these golfers won't be 'keeping their eye on the ball They are all legally blind, and the event is the Ontario Blind Golfers Association annual tour- nament, with players coming from as far away as Windsor, North Bay, Ottawa and Kingston. Al Zavitz of Richmond Hill is president of the Association. He lost his sight about 15 years ago, but that hasn't stopped him from playing golf at least once a week. He says that one of the blind golfers has had a round of 87 and others hkely will break 100 at the Pine Ridge Course Each of the golfers will have a coach-guide who selects the right club and helps line up each shot. On the greens, the guide taps the flag stick to tell the golfers where to aim and they pace off the distance to determine the length of the putts The tournament has been an annual affair in Ontario for more than a decade, and Mr. Zavitz says the golfing public from this area is more than welcome to get over to Pine Ridge to watch the action.
