Jim Jackman, 16, dressed up like Gene Simmons and Jen- nifer Copithorn, '1, charmed everyone with her impersonation of Cyndi Lauper. Don't they make a lovely couple? a. Mike Williams, Vee Jay from Much Music was nearly an hour late for his appearance at the Latcham Centre's Lip-Sync contest Thursday night, but when he finally arrived, the teens and pre-teens on hand (nearly 500 of them) went nuts, rushing Williams and the stage for autographs and buttons. It was almost as if the Beatles had arrived. nc a laugh He was nearly an hour late, but when Mike Williams finally showed up at the Latcham Centre Thursday night, all heck broke loose. He might have been the Beatles reincar- nated, or Michael Jackson on a good day, the way 500 or so teens and pre-teenagers greeted the Much Music Veejay when he walked through the Latcham door. Autograph seekers, button collectors and fans who simply wanted to shake his hand rush- ed the tiny stage, while others who couldn't move through the crowd stayed in their seat and screamed. Williams was more than a little overwhelm- ed by their enthusiasm and has talked about his Thursday night experience on his Much Music program since then. He and a fellow cameraman also videotaped a commercial message for the music cable sta- tion, in which the entire hall shrieked, 'You're watching the nation's music station, MUCH MUSIC." Most of the evening's Lip-Sync contest was also taped, including an outstanding perfor- mance by contestant and first prize winner Jen- nifer Copithorn, who did an incredible imita- tion of rock star Cyndi Lauper. Second prize went to Nick Cracknell, Bill Im- perial, Jeff Cox and Craig McFadden for their impersonation of Van Halen, a show chock full of exercise, enough to put the girls from 20 Minute Workout to shame. Paulie Sopici won third prize for her bump and grind dance routine imitating Madonna. Other contestants included Mark Kendall as Corey Hart, Heidi Meisner as Cyndi Lauper, Monique Franssen as Michael Jackson, Phil McBride, Ryan Parliament, Derek Fitzgerald and Ron Halligan as Kiss, Samina Young as Madonna, and another Kiss group featuring Jim Jackman, Mark Kendall, Dave Cassidy . and Joe Hamilton.
