This is their first visit to Canada and they expect to be here for approx- imately three weeks. Besides having family get-to-gethers, they are touring many places of interest. Our very best wishes for a never to be forgotten holiday for Karl and Herta. Mrs. Marie Boden- dispel of Guelph spent a few days with her sister, Mrs. Minnie Fisher, of Caesarea recently. Granddaughter, Leanne Fisher gf London, was a guest with Minnie for an interesting weeks visit. Visiting with Mrs. Neta Fish of Nestleton are Mrs. Jane Boyes and son Connor and Mrs. Leona Fhillindton of Carnduff, Saskatchewan. They expect to stay for two to three weeks in On- tario - their first trip to this Province. Jim and Marion Cawker of Manchester, were Sunday supper guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker of Scugog Point Rd. Ken Bragg of Bowmanville was a weekend guest. We sure- ly appreciated the efforts of Grant and Curtis Cawker of Oshawa who assisted with the hay operation during the week. Birthday Parties Katie Mairs, Nestleton, celebrated her 7th birthday this past week with grandma Eleanor Werry, great grandma Belle Werry and grandparents, Norm and Bernice present for the occasion. Our best wishes to Avril on her big day. A Holiday Of Interest Russell and Edda Bowman, St. Christoph- er had a pleasant holiday just recently. They spent a week and returned to Rockport, Mass., where they spent their honey- moon 50 years ago - and also visited friends of long standing in Connec- ticut and New Hamp- shire whom they hadn't seen for 20 years. The found many changes since visiting there before - it is very com- mercialized now. Happy belated anniversary to Russell and Edda. Caesarea Euchre At the Wed. evening Euchre party the follow- ing are to be con- gratulated. First prize - Marlene Skinner-80; Se- cond - Paul Radford - 77, Low score Linda Hughes - 45. A very good attendance. Sympathy Extended Deepest sympathy to Norman Mairs of 'Nesttetorr; who lost his brother Ivan of Lindsay, suddenly on Tuesday, Ju- ly 2nd. he leaves to mourn wife Rose and son Jim of London. Ivan will be missed by many relatives and friends. Nestleton Women's Institute The setting for the June meeting was the lovely home of Mrs. Rika Wygerde, of Nestleton President Norma Frew welcomed twelve members and two visitors. The meeting opened in regular form followed by a poem re Canada Day by the presi- dent. Roll call - "Name a kind of animal meat we can eat' - brought forth many interesting com- ments. Sec'y - Treas. Marg France read minutes, correspondence and presented the finan- cial statement. The motto - "The Pros and Cons of Farm Quotas' with Rika Wygerde giving an in teresting talk on Milk Quotas, stating how it started and what means to a farmer now. A movie was shown "Proud Beginners' tell- ing how one farm re- mained in the same family for 200 years Meeting closed with O Canada and Women's In- stitute Grace. Refreshments were serv- ed by Mesdames M. Fisher, M. Beacock and N. Fish. Appreciation was voiced by Kay Pickard. Playgrounds dishing up fun! PORT PERRY by Dawn, Korin, Jill Heather and Liz Wow, the first week has already passed, (five left for those counting! ). This week has been quite busy but filled with fun. On Thursday we visited the Feed Bin Bakery and were shown how to make hot dog buns. We'd all like to thank the employees for their help in making the trip en- joyable (also for the rolls, yum!!). Thursday was also our movie day and most of the kids smiled for the full hour! Friday we went swimm- ing and had a wet, but en- joyable afternoon. This week is Health and Safety Week and we hope to see nutritious snacks and lunches. We have already begun fundraising with drink and hot dog sales. We hope to get your sup- port as it enables us to do more things. We have also begun to sell Cake Draw Tickets and this money will enable the playground to visit On- tario Place. So don't furget to buy your ticket. The draw is being held July 12. See you next week! Remember it's never too late to join! GREENBANK by Debbie, Terry and Michelle At this time we would like to take this oppor- tunity to welcome everyone to our '85 playground. Last week was terrific! We got to make a few crafts, enjoy a few games and meet some new friends. This week we will be going on a tour of the 'Chicken Coop Bakery" to bake our own bread! Wednesday will be *'Hat Day." We hope to see some of your most creative hats!' Thursday will once again be "Movie Day." Movies will be shown at the Playground from 1:00 to 2-30. And finally, Friday will be Greenbank Playground 'Play Day." Many fun events are planned and we hope for good weather. Lunch on Friday will be hot dogs and a drink for $1.00. Some future events in- clude a BlackForest Cake Raffle and a trip for the playground for a day. Proceeds from the cake raffle will be used to pay for our trip ex- penses. Remember it's never too late to join. BLACKSTOCK The first week of playground has been a terrific success and en- joyable time for the twenty adorable angels we have registered. Our Friendship Week quickly came to an end with a successful hot dog sale and movie morning. Thursday afternoon was an exciting soccer- baseball game with Peter's team defeating Mike's team with a score of 39-22. On July 17that 10 a.m. we will be awarding a delicious BlackForest Cake made by Mrs. Newlove to the winner of the cake draw and the child that sells the most tickets will also receive a special prize Our children also took home chinese lanterns and caterpillars that they created with their own little imaginations, with Scott Davis taking first prize on the best caterpillar Next week will hold many Surprises as scary little ghosts and goblins will appear on Wednes: day as itis dress up day for our Halloween theme week So moms get into the attic and find a great costume for your child as Don't Miss 11-12-15 (formerly Western Weekend) prizes will be awarded fo the scariest. SCUGOG ISLAND by Nancy, Jennifer and Angie Hey kids! Summer is finally here, why not spend it at the Island Playground. We started off the summer with a fun filled and exciting week of crafts, dress up days, bake days and out- door games. On Wednesday we took a splash into Birdseye pool which was enjoyed by all. Thursday we visited Hawaii in our very own playground! We made grass skirts, lei's and a giant fruit salad which everyone devoured. We also had our annual hot- dog sale. Friday was Animal Day. each child brought in their favourite stuffed animal and enjoyed animated movies while munching on popcorn. Next weeks features include Nutrition Day (we'll be baking muffins and making fruit punch and vegetable dip) Tuesday is Valentine's Day, Wednesday 1s swimming, and Friday is movies. So come on out and join in the fun. Looking forward to seeing you all! PRINCE ALBERT One terrific week has ended at Prince Albert Playground. Our numbers are growing and we hope to see more children join our playground. This week has been most eventful. We have had many suc- cessful arts and crafts in- cluding a lost and found box, name tags, sponge painting, caterpillars, candy jars, leave prints, We are planning a trip to Canada's Wonderland. In order to raise money for this event we are preparing several fun- draisers. Other than our usual hot dog, lemonade and popcorn sales each week, we will be having some special fun- draisers. First of all, we will be having a car wash on Thursday, July 11, commencing at 10:00 a.m. The cost will be two dollars per car. So, come to visit Mr. Prince Albert at the Prince Albert Hall on Queen St. and his helpers will scrub-a-dub dub all the grub. The next big event will be the cake raffle. The tickets are being prepared and will be ready to be sold next week 50 cents each. Family picnic Epsom Area News by Jean Jeffery Paul and Shirley Baster, Kathy and Julie attended a family picnic at the home of Shirley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones of Glen Major. Nancy and Roy Menagh from Inwick are spending some time with her brother Paul Baster, Shirley and girls The Programme was excellent, loads of music, skits and monologue. The berries were super and everyone enjoyed the social sponsored by the Epsom-Utica UCW on Sat. evening. Clifton Gibson and her sister, Ruth Ashton, at- tended the funeral of their cousin, Elva Bar- nhardt on Tuesday. Beth Catherwood spent the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. Gordon and Jill Postma and children, Keith and Faye Ashton, Robert and Jamie spent 3 days at Cedar Grove Camp grounds at Wasaga Beach. Dr. Jerrold Asling of Hanover and family and Jan's friend, Keven, spent the weekend with his parents, Don and Stella Asling. Don and Stella enjoyed lunch at the home of Joan's mother, Mrs. Olive Barton. Many hap- py returns of the day to Mrs. Barton. Happy Bir- thday from all of us. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Lawson and girls of Clif- ford called on Jean Jef- fery on Sun. afternoon. Carl Hansen took a trip with his co-workers to Niagara Falls and Marineland one day last week. Ann Tapscott was maid of honour for her friend, Lee Dowson at her wedding in Port Perry on Sat. The Ross Evans fami- ly entertained their mother by dining out on Sunday evening on the occasion of Barbara's birthday.
