Organizers of the an- nual mid-summer event in Port Perry have decid- ed to do away with the old "'western" theme and have come.up with a new name for three days of fun-filled and interesting events. Festival Days this year will kick off on Thursday, July 11 and continue July 12 and 13 with a full line-up of at- tractions for all ages. One of the new events this year will be an at- tempt on the morning of July 13 to flip the world's largest pancake. That's right, plans are now underway to mix up some 60 pounds of batter for a pancake measuring seven feet across. If the giant pancake can be flipped successfully, it will break the last recorded Guiness World Record for such a feat. All this will take place in Palmer Park, which this year will be one of the focal points for the Festival Days. A huge tent, complete with dance floor, stage and seating for 500 peo- ple, will be set up in the Park for the entire weekénd, and it will be the scene for three dances on successive evenings, including a ""Much Music" Rock Video Party on the Thursday night with V-J Mike Williams on hand to roll the latest videos on a giant 15 foot screen. The Friday night dance under the tent will feature live music by Nitelife in a good old fashioned rock and roll revival, and the Satur- day night dance will also feature live music along with a Vegas style dance review. Some of the other new events planned for this year are the Sexy Man Contest (proceeds to the Kidney Foundation), the crowning of Miss Port Perry Fair, karate demonstrations, and fitness demonsti@ions with the people from Gold's Gym. Don't bother cooking breakfast on July 13, because there will be pancakes for everyone at the "Pancake Breakfast" in Palmer Park, served up by the Golden Griddle Restaurant, which will also play a role in the world record pancake at- tempt later that morning. And by the time you start feeling hungry again late in the after- noon, the Big Brothers Association will be only too happy to fill you up at the Beef Bar-B-Q at the lakefront. Port Perry's Queen MAGNAVOX 14" DIAGONAL Street will also be the centre for plenty of at- tractions during Festival Days with an on-going sidewalk sale by local merchants, a children's parade, the ever popular Mutt Show, magic by Stew Garland, skits by the Borelians Theatre Grovp and a kids com- petition for the best decorated bicycle. If music is your cup of tea, you'll find plenty of it, from blue grass to singalongs with Irwin Smith and Marlo Guido. And the midway will come to town for the three days and evenings.
