Hail of 34 inch across fell here but in relatively small amounts. So sorry to report that Ted Cochrane is serious- ly ill in Sick Children's Hospital and that Mrs. Margaret Divesteyn is awaiting back surgery in Room 843, Toronto Wellesley Hospital. Cecil Hamilton has been released from Port Perry Hospital and Mrs. Louise Wright has been transferred from Port Perry Hospital to the Nursing Home. Cartwright's oldest citizen, Mrs. Ethel (Greer) Bryan who for many, many years lived on the First Concession Cartwright passed away in Oshawa Hospital. She lived in the Port Perry Nursing Home for several years. She was in her 99th year. Sympathy is extended to her fami- ly and other relatives. Sympathy is also ex- tended to Audrey and Walter Wright on the passing of Audrey's sister-in-law Mrs. Floyd Stinson of Yelverton. Several from here en- joyed a conducted walk of the Historical Section of Lower Port Perry on Sunday afternoon. Others visited the Train at both Pontypool and Myrtle on Sunday after- noon. The regular train service has been reinstated on Monday to Toronto. It will be a great feature for residents of this area. George and his son Michael Hepburn were among the many par- ticipants in the Annual Canoe the Nonquon on Saturday in quite un- favourable weather. George and Michael completed the course in 5 hours and 20 minutes. Good work! Decoration Services will be held on Sunday afternoon at the Union Cememtery next Sunday with Rev. Fred Swann the speaker. Walter and Audrey Wright spent a few days early last week visiting their daughter Elaine and Grant Young and their aunt Vera. Congratulations to Ann and Leslie Taylor who celebrated their 40th (regony Storm nips Cartwright wedding anniversary with an Open House on Sunday afternoon and evening. Their family, Alice, June and Fred and their spouses and families all were present and assisting in the festivities when a large number of friends and relatives called. Mr. and Mrs. Donald' Walker of Regina, Saskatchewan spent a few days with his nephew Gerald and Joyce Kelly and family. The Youth Group en- joyed a Hayride at the home of Lynn and Brent McLaughlin on Sunday evening as the closing event of the season. The St. John's Anglican Church .along with its sister Church of Port Perry enjoyed their annual Rogation Service at the farm home of Lawrence and Linda McLaughlin Sunday morning. At this special outdoors service the animals, the crops and machinery are all blessed. The member of the Guiding and Scouting Association have really been busy and involved in the Cuboree at Cann- ington and were suc- cessful in bringing home the trophy. Congratula- tions, boys. Also that same weekend four girls Elaine Kelly, Sharon Dyer, Julie Byers and Esther Kelly were at Emily Park at the Test Weekend. Monday evening was the annual Mother and Daughter Banquet at the Rec. Centre where a large number of girls, mothers and adopted mothers enjoyed a chicken dinner. Retiring Pathfinder leaders, Brenda Bryant and Beth Schryburt were presented with long stemmed carnations and retiring Commissioner Joan Bayley presented with a gift. Once again the organization is look- ing for a Commissioner and several leaders par- ticlarly Pathfinders. On Saturday evening the an- nual Father and Son Banquet was held in the Recreation Centre. Among the awards, Chris Bryant was presented with the An- nual Blair Graham Memorial Award by Harvey Graham. On Friday evening a group of Guides and Pathfinders along with three leaders camped at Canada's Wonderland and spent the day enjoy- ing the many rides and other features of Wonderland.
