Epsom Area News by Jean Jeffery Many from the com- munity and surrounding area enjoyed an evening of Baseball, refreshments and fireworks last Monday. . The rain came down and it looked like a wash out for awhile but wasn't that huge rainbow just perfect! Thanks to all who came and to all who helped make it a fun evening. A special thanks to those who worked so hard at building the children's playground equipment and wished they were kids again! The sympathy of the community is extended to Gordon and Jill Postma on the passing of her father Mr. Jack Mound. Our condolence also to the family of the late Jim Burnett who passed away suddenly on Sat. There will be a com- munity shower June 6th at 8 p.m. for Richard Ashton and his bride to be, Heather Bell. This is a real Jack and Jill par- ty. Everyone is invited to - come to Epsom United Church. Ladies please provide lunch. Beth and Ken Cather- wood and boys spent Sun. with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ashton. The little church at Pine Grove was filled with worshippers on Sun- day afternoon for the an- nual spring service. A most inspiring message twas brought by Rev. Frank Vanderzwan at Uxbridge Chalmers Presbyterian Church and the Men's choir from Ashburn Church brought a message in song. Several from the area attended. Don and Stella fled north to their broken saw camp near Emsdale for the weekend. The W.I. held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Doble on Wed. evening to learn . about dehydration of foods. The speaker was presented with a hanging plant. The two girls who taught rug braiding were also recipients of plants. Recent company at the Tapscott home were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kettel and Emily of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Geoff Cor- van of Markham. Nestleton Presbyterian Church With a very good con- gregation on Sunday morning, guest minister Rev. J. Gilchrist of Oshawa preached an in- teresting sermon entitled "We Would See Jesus." Birthday Party A lovely birthday par- ty was hostd by Rayner and Cathy Welts of Nestleton for their small son Matthew who was two years old on Sunday. Dordt graduate Sonya Vannetten, daughter of Rick and Frances Vannetten, Port Perry, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree on Friday, May 10 from Dordt College, Sioux Centre, Iowa. Vannetten's major was elementary education. Following graduation, she plans to teach in a Christian school in Canada. She attended Dordt for four years. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kerry and family were at Waterloo on Sat' for Paul's graduation as Bachelor of Applied Science. He is now a Civil Engineer. On Sun. even- ing the family took Paul to Toronto Airport where he took a plane to Mon- treal where he starts work today for C.P. Ltd. Wendy Evans enjoyed the trip with the Grade Seven choir and band from Cornish school when they toured Ottawa last Tues. to Fri. They performed at several schools. They visited the Parliament Buildings, the Museum and attend- ed a theatre. Of course, Ottawa with its thousands of tulips was a gorgeous sight. On the return journey they toured Canada Village. Our best wishes for Herman Kerry who is in Port Perry Hospital followin a stroke last Mon. He is improving. Congratulations to Mrs. J.P. Wilson of Dahiem Nursing home who celebrated her 92nd birthday last Thursday. The Youth Group had a fly in party at Utica last Sun. when all took a flight in the Kerry plane then over to the Baster home for a barbecue _ supper. Lois and Barry Bushell visited Howard and Ruth on Monday afternoon. We are pleased to learn Mrs. Jordan is recovering from surgery in Port Perry Hospital. Last Sun.
