HO ------ 24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 28, 1985 Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock Hats 'f to the students and staff of the Green- bank Public School who entertained parents, grandparents and . friends of the students to a gala evening of superb singing, dancing and theatre at the Sunderland Town Hall on Thursday evening! This presentation featuring outstanding local talent was an auditory and a visual delight to all who attended this spectacular production. It was cer- tainly quite evident that many hours of hard work, by all concerned, had been required to make it all come together so splendidly. As one of the parents pre- sent that evening, | wish to take this opportunity to express sincere ap- preciation to all who con- tributed to making it such an enjoyable experience!' The only sad note of the evening was the an- nouncement that the principal, Mr Morrison, or more affectionately . known to many of us as "Bud" will be ter- minating his duties at the Greenbank-Epsom schools and will be tak- ing up the position of principal at the Joseph Gould Senior Public School in Uxbridge this September. It is with regret that we accept his decision but our best wishes for a happy and successful relationship with his new students and staff are extended to him. The name of a replace- ment principal has not yet been revealed. Congratulations to grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hatch and Mr and Mrs. Brown! Seagrave certainly needs more little girls - best wishes to all of you! While I'm in the pro- cess of offering con- gratulations, I would like to extend some to Mr. Cliff Billings, our com- munity park caretaker, for the excellent work he does in maintaining this facility in such A-1 condi- tion. Not only is it a pleasure for all who use the park it also enhances the yards that border it. Thanks Cliff - it sure looks terrific! Don and I attended the funeral of the late Mr. Ray L. Cook in Port Perry last Thursday. Ray was a long-time resident of this area and was a friend to many. Our sympathy is extend- ed to his family who will certainly miss a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The village of Seagrave also was shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of little Danny Powell of Epsom recently. Our thoughts and prayers to to this little boy's family during this most difficult time. Attention any members fo the Beacock clan who may be reading this column. The 58th an- nual Beacock Reunion will be held at the No weed solutions (From page 7) would fill in again within a year. One woman's com- ments in particular angered Mr. Carpenter, who explained he wanted to say something as an individual, not as a representative of the Ministry of the Environ- ment, and said, 'That Blackstock Recreation Hall on Saturday, June 15 with registration beginning about noon. A fun-filled afternoon 1s planned for both kids and adults and a dance wll oe held beginning at 8:00 p-m. in the evening-so be sure to circle that date on your calendar!' Sympathy of this com- munity is also extended to the family and friends of the late Mr. Charles Hadden who passed away suddenly while on a trip to Cornwall. Mr. Hadden was widely known and highly respected in the area and his passing will certain- ly leave a void in the community. We were sorry to hear that Mrs. Poole has recently undergone surgery in the Oshawa General Hospital. The Poole's reside on the former Jimmy Durward farm. Hope you're soon feeling better and back home again! This past Sunday the Seagrave Sunday School observed its anniversary celebrations and were delighted to have the Rev. Brian Robinson of Grace United Church, Scugog Island as our special guest speaker for the occasion. Rev. Robinson brought along his little friend Duggan and totally captivated the congregation with this novel method of teaching children about the scriptures Also joining us were the Fourtunettes, a group of four attractive and talented ladies who also hail from the Isl.nd who entertained us with several old favourites. Miss Amy-Lynn Wanamaker accom- panied by our organist Mrs. Joan Lee rendered a beautiful solo. Thanks to all of the above gals and to Rev. Robinson for helping to make this anniversary one of the best ever! Birthday box contribu- tions this week were Diane Knutson, Joan and Lorna Durward and Alex Ingram's little grand- daughter. Best wishes to each of you. Sunday afternoon Don and I had the pleasure of attending a reception held at the Trinity United Church in Uxbridge for a energetic and vivacious Miss Norma Urquhart of Uxbridge who was celebrating her 80th bir- thday with a host of friends and well-wishers. If I have the energy and ambition of this lady when I'm half her age, I'll be happy. Thanks Norma - we had a wonderful time. Saturday, June 1 ap- pears to be a very active day in our little village. As well as watching the canoeists paddle down the Nonquon in the Canoe Kids showed panache at gala night the Nonquon race the Boy Scouts will be hosting a-yard and bake sale at the Seagrave United Church and would appreciate«your support Proceeds from this event will be used to send the boys to the Canadian Jamboree which will be held in Guelph this year. Any and all donations would be gratefully ac- - cepted and may be left on the front porch of Dan and Martha Volman's home. The Mariposa Ladies Group are planning a dinner party for the members of their group at the Deer Park Inn at Stouffville on Wednesday June 5 at 7:30 p.m. Sounds great girls - have a great time - the food is fantastic! Service at Seagrave and Pinedale will be discontinued next Sun- day, June 2 in obser- vance of Greenbank's Sunday School anniver- sary which will begin at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Don Asl- ing will be the special guest speaker. On June 9 Seagrave and Greenbank will not have services in honour of Pinedale's S.S anniversary. We extend deepest sympathy to Peter Hvidsten of the Star and his family upon learning "that his father, Per Hvidsten passed away suddenly Monday morn- ing. The late Mr. Hvidsten was certainly a well-known gentleman and was deeply involved with community affairs and will certainly be sad- ly missed by a great many folks.
