Smelly sandwiches The enthusiastic wit of author/illustrator lan Wallace had the kids at Prince Albert Public School eating smelly sandwiches out of the palm of his hand Friday afternoon. First the dynamic story- teller related one of his most famous books, The Sandwich, the tale of a youngster who learned to be his own person through a smelly sandwich. And then, the highlight of the afternoon, everyone was invited to taste a real smelly sandwich. With 22 members in attendance It wasn't that easy to do. We were pleased to welcome Harriet Hunt as our guest and hope she will come again Members are en- couraged to submit crafts for our display in the Port Perry Fair. This year prizes will be given for various categories representing the **Home- made Christmas' theme Flyers have been printed announcing the Institute's fund raising Auction to be held July 6th at the Scugog Island Hall and are being distributed. Members have chosen work areas for the auction but help is still needed to pick up donated articles Satur- day, June 29 and also for sorting articles on Fri- day, July 5. We have all been given tickets for a draw on a green and beige afghan made by Bonnie Gerrow and an Aran needlepoint pillow in white, made by Alva Thompson The draw will be held on the auc- tion day and at 50 cents per ticket or 3 tickets for $100. 1t 1s a bargain' Some profits from the auction will be used for improvements to the Island Hall Ontario South District's Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, May 23 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in" Whitby and was attended by four delegates and three District Convenors from our institute. We have also sent a Con- gratulatory card to the Brooklin Women's In- stitute on achieving their 75th anniversary Hopefully, as many members as possible will be able to help them celebrate on Thursday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. in Brooklin. The women who worked so hard to make Honeydale's 50th anniversary celebration such a success are to be applauded. What a love- ly afternoon our nine members had. Certainly the Port Perry Seniors Choir was a very special treat.
