The festivities were held in Nightingale Centennial Temple, Bowmanville, with a great number of friends on hand for the occasion to pay tribute to Sister Eleanor. Worthy Patron Wilson Pring was the master of ceremonies. Grand Of- ficers and her own Chapter members spoke of Eleanor's ability and all she has accomplished during the year. A dedicated person she has performed her duties with dignity and brought honour to our fine Order. Indeed - her contribution has been immeasurable! The beautiful vocal solos by P.M. Jean Simp- son accompanied by W.M. Betty Dowden and the saxaphone solos by P.G.P. Brian Lee were nostalgic and heart warming. . Sister Eleanor's fami- ly were present - her hus- band Len, and the fami- ly, also her brother. After the ceremonies concluded the assembly retired to the lower hall where delicious food in abundance was enjoyed by all present, topped off with tea and coffee, prepared by the commit- tee in charge. Allin all a very special evening! Nestleton Women's Institute Spring Sale A Success The Nestleton Branch met in the Community Centre for the May meeting with Pres. Nor- ma Frew welcoming ten members and seven visitors. She opened in regular form with the Ode, Mary Stewart Col- lect and read a poem en- titled 'My Country - right or wrong." Pianist Winnifred Davison. Roll Call 'was answered by naming an advantage a girl of today has which grandma lacked. Minutes were approved as read by Sec'y-Treas. Marg. France and she gave the financial state- ment. The District An- nual for Durham West will be held in Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, Monday May 13. Several members plan to attend. A donation was voted to assist the Community playground. O Canada and the W.1. Grace was sung to close this part of the meeting. A plant and bake sale proved interesting with Rika Wygerde the capable auctioneer assisted by Bertha McLaughlin. Proceeds amounted to $70.90. A nice lunch was served by the executive. Caesarea Card Party A. very good atten- dance for the Wednesday evening Euchre and the following are to be con- gratulated: First prize winner - Tom Robins with an excellent - 93. Se- cond prize - Faith Lawrence - 78. Third - Doug Thomas - 46. James Emerton has 15 lone hands for the month of April. A nice lunch was enjoyed. Next week at the Centre on Wednes- day evening at 8 p.m. Try to support the Ladies 'Auxiliary - a hard work- ing group. Annual Pancake Breakfast Come one and all to the Nestleton Hall, to the Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, May 12 serving from 9 am. to2pm. This is a special breakfast spon- sored by-the Hall Board each year. Blackstock Hardware ' Limited The Beacock Hard- ware will be opening on May 17 and 18th and everyone is invited to come in for free coffee and doughnuts. Watch for no ce of this event! Nestleton United Church Although a very dreary day a good con- gregation and S. School gathered at Nestleton United on Sunday, May 5th. Greeting at the door were Ina Davis and her family. Several newcomers were warm- ly welcomed to the ser- vice. Joyce Johns assisted Rev. Dale Davis - taking the "call to wor- ship" and reading the portions of Scripture. Norma Frew and Ken Weir assisted in the Nursery. Choir number, "Help Somebody To- day." The minister's ser- mon was based on History taken from Genesis and Luke, entitl- ed, 'Righteous -Gen- tiles."" Keep in mind the Official Board meeting of the charge this coming Wednesday May 8 at 8 p.m. to be held in Nestleton United Church (for elders, stewards and all | elected representatives). The Spring Smorgasbord held on Friday evening at Nestleton Community Centre was a successful venture for the Nestleton UCW. A hearty thank you to all those who sup- ported the U.CW. by purchasing tickets and trust one and all enjoyed the meal immensely as well as the fellowship. Your interest was much appreciated! Happy Event Our congratulations and warmest wishes to Dan and Lea Kitchen of Oshawa who are the pro- ud parents of a baby daughter, Jessica Danielle, born in Oshawa General Hospital at ap- proximately 11:30 P.M. on May 4th. Mother and baby doing well. The Blackstock and . District (Cartwright) Lions Club The Blackstock and District Lions Club are "hosting" their 4th an- nual Dinner Theatre May 25th at 7 p.m. in the Rec. Centre. The play is a comedy with local talent entitled, "Barefoot In The Park" by Neil Simon. Blair Martyn - Ph. 986-5165 is organizing the event. Doors will open at 6 p.m. dinner at 7 p.m. For tickets con- tact any Lion. The Lions Club is also planning to have a Flea Market, May 25 and 26. Lion Cliff Trapp is chair- man of this event and hopes to-have double the profit over last year. If you can contribute to the Flea Market call Lion Cliff 986-5685 for informa- tion or any Lion. If you have anything to donate to the Flea Market - please do so - as they do - a great deal of excellent work helping those in need. Mrs. Neta Fish, Nestleton, and Mrs. Yvonne Holland of Bowmanville, spent Saturday afternoon visiting with Jim and Audrey Leishman, Michael, Jamie and William, Reaboro and enjoyed the day very much.
