During the even- ing Randy and Diane were presented with a $200. cheque from Port Perry Kinsmen; $200. cheque from Port Perry Kinettes and $200. in food vouchers from Port Perry IGA. Many other merchants = donated goods which were capably auctioned by Gerry Brett. A delicious buffet lunch had been provided by the neighbours and was en- joyed at midnight. As the Rec Centre had also been donated for the evening a fine profit is expected to be realized. Presently the Stewart family is liv- ing in a trailer on their lot. The bus will be leaving at 9:30 a.m. returning by 5:30. On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Kelly attended the Retirement Party of Ralph Hodgson who has retired as Secretary-manager of Lindsay Exhibition after 14 years which was held in Little Britain Com- munity Centre. On April 25 the Achievement Day for the recent Homemaking Club Actionwear was held in Bowmanville High School with quite a good number of parents and friends in atten- dance. All participating members took part in a fashion show displaying their action wear which they had made in the Club. Congratulations to Natalie Green and Nan- cy Green who each received their Provincial Honours for the comple- tion of Twelve Clubs. The Blackstock Hard- ware will be reopening on May 17 after being closed for a year since the serious fire that they suffered last May 16. Blackstock Hardware will be operated by Allan, Bob, Bruce and Barb Beacock and will be a welcome addition to Blackstock. Best wishes are ex- tended to Bill and Helen Newlove, Chris and Kel- ly who moved last week to Port Perry where Helen will continue to operate her Kreative Kit- chens. A warm welcome is extended to Mr. and 'Mrs. Earle Barr and family who are moving into the former Newlove . home. On May 26 at 7:30 the Prodigal players are coming to Blackstock to perform outdoors, weather permitting. Tickets $2.00 per person or $5.00 per family are available from U.C.W. members after May 15. This is an intergenera- tional event and all are welcome. Plan now to at- tend and bring your family and friends. Good wishes are ex- tended to Bob Holliday who underwent surgery this week in Sunnybrook - Hospital this past week. We wish you as speedy recovery as possible. Also sorry to report that Mrs. Roy Turner has suf- fered a stroke recently and is a patient in Joseph 0. Ruddy Hospital, Whitby. On May 1st the Blackstock W.I. met at the Hall for Dessert Lunch and a social half hour. The new president Edith McLaughlin open- ed the meeting by everyone singing the Ode AW. BROC DEPARTMENT STORE QUEEN STREET - PORT PERRY (Merchandise Not Necessarily as lllystrated.) and repeating the Marv Stewart Collect 1n unison. The Agriculture Con- venor Jean Adams in- troduced the guest speaker Sharyn Barkey who told that on their farm everyone has a job and everyone pitches in for the extras. A contest was held on placing food in their. proper categories eg. - breads, fruit and vegetables, ex- tras etc. She was thank- ed by Beth Schyburt who also gave the Motto on Milk. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Roll call was answered by naming a milk product. It was decided that our Branch would make the Pennies for Friendship up to $30.00. The secretary will buy more cups and saucers for 4-H gifts. Blackstock Fair Display to be In- stitute Memories of 10-15 articles including a floral - centre piece. Each display will receive ten dollars. More details will be announced later. The Sewing Group is progressing nicely. The meeting on June 5 is on Cultural Affairs and the winning one act play for Public School will be presented. Meeting at the Hall at 1 p.m. with everyone welcome. This year the W.I. theme is, the International Year of the Youth. Meeting clos- ed with the singing of O. Canada. There were 9 tables of cards at the weekly card party with the following winners: 1. The Evening Unit of the UCW met recently at . Marg Kemp's home. To open, the minutes of the last meeting were read by Carolyn Morton. The bale will be packed on May 12th so please have clothes to the church before then. Pat Obsfield is convening the Lion's dinner May 15th. On May 26th th prodigal players will come to Blackstock. The evening starts with a pot luck supper at the church at 6 o'clock with the play to be presented at 7:30 p.m. If interested in tickets please contact Barb Larmer.
