Prior to the meeting, members of the 4-H Club sold homemade baked goods. With the rather pleasant task of purchasing some very delicious looking "goodies" over it was down to business. Annual dues of $3.00 were collected and the convenors of standing committees gave their annual reports. Elections were held to fill four va- cant positions on the Ex- ecutive Committee. New Officers are: Second Vice President - Mary Ostrom; Treasurer. - Denise Dupont; Con- venor (Agriculture and Canadian Industries) Penny Pettypiece; Public Relations - Penny Kutlik. All officers were sworn in by District President Alva Thompson. Mrs. Thompson also spoke briefly on the Benefits of Being a Women's Institute Member which was the motto of the meeting. In keeping with this theme, Janis Richardson show- ed an entertaining slide presentation depicting the many aspects of scenic and historic On- tario as well as highlighting various ac-- tivities undertaken by Women's Institute bran- ches throughout this province. Special mention must be made of the beautiful display of completed braiding projects which were the result of a course taught by Lilo Czilok and Margaret Morrow and sponsored by the Ministry of ~ Agriculture. The course, which was open to anyone interested, resulted in many im- aginative projects being made for Summary Day in Uxbridge this April. It is to be noted that the Annual Meeting will be held in Whitby, at St. An- drew"s Presbyterian Church, on May 23 and that the Institute picnic will be held Tuesday, Ju- ly 9 in Uxbridge. Our next meeting, on May 15th ushers in a new year for the Women's In- stitute and we would like to remind you that meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month, 8:00 p.m. at the Scugog Island Communi- ty Centre.
