Company president Don Soutar demonstrated the amaz- ing Starship TX500 at Caesarea last Saturday and drew a large crowd of curious - onlookers. The hovercraft can hover across water at speeds of 40 to 50 mph Inc., the firm that manufactures the hover- crafts, and Mayor Jerry Taylor who was on hand at a demonstra- tion run last Saturday at Caesarea. and is a sportman's dream come true as it allows for travel in mar- shes, bogs, and extreme- ly shallow water. At the demonstration last Saturday, the Star- ship was launched from the road in front of the Caesarea dock. It was driven down the road, over an embankment in- to the 'lake, speeding across the calm water it then circled back and drove out of water up on- to the Renouf's lawn. Mr. Soutar told the Star that the craft is as easy to learn to drive as a standard automobile, but advised anyone pur- chasing one should take some instruction in an open area before trying any difficult maneouvers. The Starship TX500 can carry two passengers, and is powered by a 53 hp air cooled Fuji engine. It is 13 feet in length and 7 feet, 2 inches wide and weighs about 385 pounds. In addition to being a summer vehicle, with the accessory bubble top, the Starship TX500 can become a winter machine as it will just as easily glide over snow or ice. Other options available to the hover- craft are lights, clothing and helmets. Mr. Soutar said that their company is now working on a larger model which should be ready for next year. This hovercraft would carry four passengers, have gull-wings and sell for about $18,000.
