Heron The "Ritz" Fasion . Show under the auspices of the Kirk Guild last Tuesday evening was a big success. The auditorium of the Thunderbird Golf and Country Club was well ~ filled. The models looked lovely in their well made beautiful clothes. Probably what people will remember most about that show was the old fashioned bathing suits and how well Muriel Fisher, Ron Ashton and Bunny Cox modelled them. It was a real fun part of the even- ing. Much credit is due to all those who worked hard preparing before and the night of the show. The Ladies Bible class met on Wednesday even- ing at the home of Ruby Bryant in Port Perry. The President, Aldene Wick, had an Easter devotions titled 'Joy Cometh in the Morning." Chrissie McKinney led in prayer. Plans were made to visit the Nursing Home in Port Perry on April 22nd at 7:30 p.m. Bernice Gardner was in charge of the pro- gram. Nellie Hopkins, Joan " 'ht and Florence Ashton read lovely Easter poems and Bernice gave a good' Easter message. She conducted a contest, with Sandra Bath winning. She got the most words you could make out of the word Easter. A lovely lunch was served by the hostess. The Durham Region branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association will be having a Diabetes product display and in- formation fair on Wednesday, April 24 from 3 p.m. t0 9:30 p.m. at Holy Family Parish Hall, Riddlesdale Drive, Whitby, north of Highway 2 on Anderson Street, turn left at Man- ning Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Laswick and son Ryan of Peterborough spent the Easter weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wood and Mark. Mrs. Bill Hamilton of Minden spent a few days recently with her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Lynde. We are glad to report Mr. Ernie Humphrey is home again after having surgery in Scarborough - General Hospital. We all wish him a speedy recovery. The ladies who are canvassers for the Cancer Society will be calling on everyone in the Myrtle and Ashburn area this month. Last Sunday was mis- sionary Sunday at Burns Church. Bernice Gard- ner, President of the Women's Missionary Society, conducted the service and followed the Easter devotion pro- gram from the glad tidings. Scriptures were read by Florence Ashton, Ray Death and Rose Heron. Chrissie McKin- ney led in prayer, and the choir sang "Send the Light." The guest speaker was Rev. Murray Garvin, a former Missionary. He had recently visited the missionary fields in Japan, Korea and Ta- wain and told us many interesting facts about the Christian Churches there. Korea was celebrating 100 years of Christian witness, and the church there is a growing, outreaching church. The church in Seoul is the largest Presbyterian church in the world with room for 5,000 people and Mr. Gar- vin said it was full for five services every Sun- day and there every Christian is a , mis- sionary. Something for us to seriously think about. Lois Daw thanked the speaker for a most in- formative message. Next Sunday a representative of the B,- ble Society will be here to show slides and bring the message. Hope is like the sun which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.
