Sportsland winds up in second spot Sunday, March 24th the Sportsland Junior Ringette team hosted Markham in an exhibi- tion game. Unfortunate- ly we came out on the short end of the score. Markham opened the scoring early in the first period and by the end of the period were ahead 5 to 0. Although the girls made several good shots on goal, they couldn't get past the Markham goalie. Tina Soomre scored our only two goals of the game. Both of them were assisted by Vicki Reid and Colleen Scala. Heidi Meisner and Anne Finch were both taken up to the hospital with leg injuries in the second period but neither turned out to be anything too serious. The regular season has ended and the Sportsland team placed a solid se- cond in their league. They had a super year and deserve to be con- gratulated. Terry Childs gave us great goalten- ding all year. Our 'defence lines of Jessica Fluke, Denise Tomkins, Colleen Scala, Val White and Anne Finch played great ringette keeping the opposition out of our end as much as possible. The tournaments net- ted the girls one gold medal and one silver and - in the Regionals a berth in the semi-finals. Jim and Marg Lawrence and Sue Soaper were great behind the bench as can be seen by the team stats. Thanks go to Sport- sland for their sponsor- ship in making the year possible and to the parents and fans who supported the team all year. But most of all thanks go to the girls for their calibre of play and a job well done. As Norm would say, "What a team!!!" Petites end with a win On Sat. March 23, in the last league game of the season for the Bruton's 1.D.A Petites, they hosted the Sunderland team and beat them by a score of 114. Port opened the scoring early and con- tinued to take the ring from the opposition, make some good passes and shoot. When the defence was moved up they also continued in this fashion. Scoring for 'Port were Denna Lover- ing 4 goals, 1 assist; Mis- ty Andrews 3 goals, 1 assist; Nicky Beare 2 goals, 4 assists; Danielle Cooper and Jennifer Morden 1 goal each; Kim Poppleton and Amy Parliament 2 assists; Kelly Menzies and Jen- nifer Morden 1 assist each. It is nice to see the ring being passed before the goal is scored. Keep up the good work girls! All of the girls had a good game. We have our last tour- nament of the year in. Ajax on Mar. 29, 30 and 31. See you at Pickering 'Village Arena on Sat. at 8 A.M. when we take on Ajax. (131. [ell]: (ol [34 Of course you want to keep more of the money you work hard for.
