'Public School libraries upgraded in near future The libraries at. both Greenbank and Epsom Public Schools will be upgraded and improved over the next two years. The Durham Board of Education announced last week that upgrading on the library at Green- bank Schoo! will begin this year, and im- provements will start at Epsom the following year. The Board has adopted a five year plan for upgrading school libraries in Durham Region. Along with the two public schools in Scugog, Cartwright High School in Blackstock is included for library upgrading in 1986. The recommendations are subject to final ap- proval by the Durham Board's finance committee. CORE FRENCH The Durham Board last week also approved four recommendations to expand the Core French programs in public schools. The expansion will af- fect grades four to eight and is designed to be phased in over a period of five years. Essentially, the expan- sion will increase the Core French program in these grades from the current 20 minutes in- struction per day to 40 minutes per day. Grade six (will be the first changes this year. The Board says the Core French program will be staffed above the regular teaching compli- ment at each school. The expanded programs will be subject to budget ap- proval each year. MUSIC POLICY The Durham Board has adopted a music policy to give all grade seven and eight students both vocal and in- strumental music pro- grams as part of regular day school music instruction. Policy regulations pro- vide for the phase-in of funding for basic minimum instructions for a class of 35 students in each school with grade 8 and/or grade seven students. Larger schools will be equipped with enough in- struments to reach a ratio of three students to each instrument to a maximum of three class sets. © ECONOMY © COMPACT . © STANDARD/FULL SIZE ® LOW RATES © LONG TERM LEASING © TRUCK RENTALS PHILP PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED 10 VANEDWARD DRIVE, PORT PERRY - 985-8474 - OPEN: Weekdays to 9 P.M; Friday to 6 P.M.; Saturday to 4 P.M. no fees.
