February 12, 1985 CHS students to crown Heart Queen Friday by Christina McLean I can gratefully report thi t exams are over and we are now full-swing in- to our next semester! Thank you to the people who generously con- tributed to the students of Cartwright, who can vassed for the Ontario Heart Fund on February 10th. The finalists for this year's Heart Queen are: Angela Duivesteyn, Carol Lewerentz, Julie Bryant, Cathy Paisley, Tara Bailey and Rhoda Williams. The finalists will present their speeches on Feburary 15th, and the speeches will be judged by members of the Heart Fund. The Heart Queen and two Princesses will be crowned at the Heart Dance, which is also on February 15th. The win- ner of our annual Heart King will be announced at the Winter Carnival, which is to be held February 22. Do not forget to ask your favourite valentine to our Heart Dance! The date is set for Friday, February the 15th from 8:00 - 11:30. Ticket prices are $3.50 with 1.D., $4.00 without I.D. and $7.00 per couple. You must have Winter Carnival at Port High School this Friday by Christina Bauer Valentine's Day carna- tions went on sale Mon- day. They are on sale un- til Wednesday, so get out and buy a carnation for your sweetie! Carnations will be distributed to the lucky recipients by our own cupids. Thursday, Feb. 14th. The draw for the Inuit Manchester 4-H Well, it's 1985 and the first unit of the year has started and it is called the "4-H Basic Baking." We will be making tea biscuits, pies, cakes and decorating them too. We have four members this unit, they are as follows: Angela Clodd - President; Jody Norton - Secretary; Lisa Trevena - Treasurer and Laura-Lee Taylor - Press Reporter. Our leaders are Mrs. Kingstone and Mrs. Clodd. We would all like to welcome Mrs. Clodd who is a new leader this unit and is very helpful to us and Mrs. Kingstone too. Our next meeting is February 18, and we will be choosing a name for our club and be making a blueberry pie. Closer to the end of the unit there will be a bake sale, hope ~ to see you there. Winter Carnival Day is Friday, Feb. 15th. To start the day right the teachers will be serving a pancake breakfast. Tickets for this event are on sale for $1.00 each. Games and the snow sculpture contest will take place in the after- noon. Come out and par- ticipate! Show your school spirit! On Friday night to end the exciting day, is the Carnival Dance. The Music- makers will be there to entertain. We had quite an in- teresting euchre tourna- ment last week, and I am glad to say that everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who came out to this match, in- cluding Don and Rob! Our House Ledgues are beginning this semester, and our Drama competition is scheduled for April 11th and 12th. Intramural February 7th. Congratulations to our Senior Boys' Basketball team who defeated Har- wood on January the 5th. The hard effort of our team produced 52 outstanding points, while Harwood only managed 41 points. lan Porter had a fantastic game and came up with 20 points. Congratulations also to Mike McDiarmid who had 16 points, Craig Hud- son with 11 points, and Allen Hudson with 5 points. On January 31, - Cartwright was defeated by Eastdale, 71-43. Our team's next game proved to be very suc- cessful, as they defeated Vanier 73-61. - congratulations to Mike McDiarmid who played an excellent game, scoring 37 point for his (jregony e Men's Wear Std.
