Blackstock Area News by Joyce Kelly Ralph and Peggy Larmer are looking very proud these days with the arrival of a grandson, born early Sunday mor- ning to their daughter Sharon and Eric Goulding. "Heather will be an excited little girl, too. On Wednesday even- ing, our community was saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Mrs. Cecil Hamilton at Port Perry Hospital. She had been taken to hospital after lunch that same day. Sympathy is extended to Cecil and her many other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was held on Saturday from Port Perry Funeral Chapel. The General meeting of the U.C.W. was held at the church on Wednes- day, January 23. Rev. Dale Davis led a very meaningful worship bas- ed on the parable of "The Good Samaritan" before * installing the new 1985 executive and officers. Past President, Thelma Wright presented the outgoing President, Eileen McLaughlin with a Life Membership in the U.C.W. Grace Hall gave an informative introduc- tion to the study book on Korea and showed a film strip, telling of the history and people of that country. President Marion Larmer closed the meeting with prayer. While many are going south for holidays, a group of Blackstock snow enthusiasts enjoyed a weekend in the Hunt- sville area at Pow Wow Point Lodge, par- ticipating in winter sports. Only six tables of euchre were filled on Thursday evening at the Prince Albert Hall. Ladies high went to Gladys Slack, second was Mary Poots and low was Anne Cornish and on the men's side high was Ed Donnley, second was . Owen Gray and poor Mary Williamson help- ing out the men came in low. What a way to treat a lady. Try and come on next Thurs. Jan. 31, don't let Mother Nature scare you away. Last week end the Oslen household was home to help Dad (Fred) celebrate his birthday which was on the 15th of January. Belated birth- day wishes Fred from the rest of Prince Albert. And speaking of bir- thdays, if you see An- drew Pereman on Thurs- day January 31, wish him a Happy Birthday. Jeff Robinson was home on the weekend with his Mom, Norma. Jeff is attending school in Peterborough. Gavin Cochrane and Andrew Pereman were in Peterborough last weekend to attend the tournament of hockey. These two boys are in the Atom league and they brought a consolation prize back home with them. Keep up the good hockey boys - MoJacks may need you some day. On Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock were host and hostess to a birthday party for Tom Cole from Oshawa. Also present were Mrs. Cole, Miss Olive Beacock and Mrs. M. Trevas from Oshawa and Mr. and Mrs. J. Beacock from Lindsay, Ontario. Well, Tom, Happy Birthday and many more to come. The Swain children from Blackstock have been visiting their grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Moore. There was a good tur- nout at the annual meeting on Sunday at the Prince Albert United Church. Three new elders were elected into the church - they are Doug McMillan, Harvey Dearborn and Norma Robinson. And this past Satur- day, Gavin Cochrane and Andrew Pereman and Shawn Larocque were in Port Hope with the Atom team of All-Star trying their best and came back with the consolation prize again. Well, as I said before boys keep trying, I hear the Mo- Jacks got beat out last night too. Please call Ilean Pugh with your news next week at 985-2146. Many grand- parents were very busy 'babysitting while the Moms and Dads were away. Better health is wished for several of local folk who are ill, including Leslie Taylor and Margaret Duivesteyn 'who are both in Oshawa Hospital. Les is making good progress following surgery and hopes to be home before long. Two 4-H Sewing Clubs in Action Wear, will begin on February 6 and February 7 at Blackstock United Church from 3:45 to 5:30 for anyone interested between 12 and 21 years old. The B Cartwright Boy Scouts will be holding a Bottle Drive on February 16. A group of snowmobilers from the Cartwright Dynamos Snowmobile Club travell- ed to the Fenelon Falls area on Saturday and ater staying overnight at a local lodge returned home on Sunday. Janvary 29, 1985 -- 29 Larmers looking forward to new arrival On Saturday, January 26, the Blackstock Pathfinders enjoyed an exciting day commenc- ing with a tasty lunch at our leader, Schryburt's home. After lunch we worked on some challenges and 'then went swimming at the Newcastle Fitness Centre. After returning to the Schryburt's, we enjoyed a movie and sup- per. Unfortunately, our other leader, Mrs. Bryant and Lori Swain | were unable to attend. Dwayne Bryant, Nor- ma Jean Newbold, Rob Graham and Eleanor Kelly enjoyed their day at the Newmarket Junior Curling Bonspiel held at the York Curling Club on Saturday. Young people from many Western and Central Ontario Centres participate in this Bonspiel sponsored by McDonald's for curlers under 20. On Sunday evening, the Blackstock Youth Group met at the Blackstock United Church where they en- joyed a delicious pot luck supper. Then, they went to the Duivesteyn's hills, where they enjoyed toboganning.
