Fri. night on home ice hosting Ajax, Sportsland came out on top of a 3-2 score. After a slow first period, Ajax held a 1-0 lead, it was not until halfway through the se- cond when Daryl Leatherdale using his pointman Scott Feasby on a power play that Port finally tied the game. Blair Bailey connected to the top corner againon a power play with 6:21 re- maining in the final period, giving Port a 2-1 lead, Kevin Gibson and Robbie Brown each drew an assist. Ajax came fighting back two minutes later, once again having the game in a two all deadlock. Costly penalties proved Ajax downfall as Port took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Paul Wylie as he connected with the bottom corner on a low shot from the blueline. Blair Bailey and John Lally assisted on the final goal. Sat. night at the Darl- ington Arena against Bowmanville it was an entirely different game as Sportsland were out- shot and outplayed by a determined Bowman- ville Minor team. The first period remained scoreless due only to ex- cellent goal tending by Ricky King. Blair Bailey deking the goalie on a breakaway had Sport- sland up by one early in the second. Goalie Ruthard never had a chance on a blistering shot from inside the blueline by Scott Feasby after carrying the puck from his own end. Kevin Gibson and Robbie Brown each assisted. This two goal lead soon vanished as Bowman- ville connected for two quick goals, then took the lead with 3:33 left to play. Fri. Jan. 25th a 50 score earned Ricky King his second shutout of the season when Sportsland hosted Lindsay in an ex- hibition game. It was a slow first and second period, even the fans could not summon up much enthusiasm. Kevin Gibson was in the right spot to pop in the first goal after Robbie Brown having broke through Lindsay defense was robbed on his attempt. At the 6:07 mark of the se- cond controlling the play from the corner and car- rying the puck behind the net Daryl Leatherdale scored unassisted as he tucked one in the corner. Sportsland increased their lead in the third ad- ding three more goals. Robbie Jamieson posi- tioned at the corner of the net tipped in a shot from the corner by winger Darren Caudle, Jon Rodway also drew an assist. Robbie Brown robbed on so many at- tempts finally succeeded in getting one past goalie Smith, giving Port a 40 lead. With 11 seconds re- maining Robbie Jamieson scored his se- cond of the game from Jon Rodway and Darren Caudle. Sportsland will com- mence playoff action on Wed. Jan. 30th at 8 o'clock when. they will host F *nelon Falls. Fri. Feb. 1st they will oe in Fenelon Falls for a 7:30 game. Plan to come out and support our local teams. Novice Star are on the move Millbrook goalie made many incredible saves as did our own excellent goalie, Mike Pashley. As the new year pro- gresses the Pearce Auc- tioneers are showing more and more that they are the team to beat in the play offs. They have become a very well rounded team, playing well together with the of- fensive players becom- ing a constant threat to their opposition and the defensive not giving anyone many chances to skate in the Port Perry end. The boys should all be very proud of their ef- forts as we know the parents and fans all are. On Friday night the boys were matched up against the Millbrook team in an exhibition game. The 1st period saw Port open the scoring with a beautiful goal as 'defenseman Jay King carried the puck through the Millbrook offense to the red line, passed to Davy Bourgeois who put it in front to Scott Heasman who drilled it by the goaltender. Good team work Jay, Davy and Scott. Millbrook retaliated later in the period to tie the game 1-1. Although the score re- mained tied the puck did everything but go in the Millbrook net. Port had several breakaways and open corners but the Millbrook Very early Sunday morning the Pearce Auc- tioneers travelled to the Civic for a match against the Oshawa Hawks. Although the boys skated hard they came up short, losing 5-2. Port's Scott Heasman played a very good game and got a well assist on Port's 1st goal scored by linemate Dave Bourgeois. Black Our 2nd goal was scored by Graham Holt late in the 3rd period with assists credited to Davy Bourgeois and Mike Labanovich. Good work boys. On Sunday the Pearce Auctioneers host Ux- bridge in their final league challenge before the play offs; then Satur- day it's off to Bowman- ville for a day long tour- nament. Keep up the good team work boys, you CAN DO IT!!
