Muskies scoring Keith Haist, Brent Giles and Mike Pashley 1 goal each with right peak The Goreski Bantam '"'A's" appear to be peaking at the right time as the Ontario Playdowns approach. For the second week in a row they handily defeat- ed the Oshawa Red Wings. Mark Barkey opened the scoring for Port when he won the face-off in the Port zone to Jamie Menzies who passed back to Barkey at centre ice and Mark beat the defenceman with. a nice move and then beat the goalie with a nice deke. Greg "Mad Dog" Stapleton scored Port's second goal on a nice set up from Steve Connors and Mark Barkey. Brad Menzies and Jeff Oke combined to set up Jamie Menzies for Port's third goal of the period. Oke gained possession along the boards and passed to Brad Menzies who spott- ed Jamie Menzies off to the side of the net and Jamie made no mistake as he slapped home the pass. Oshawa opened the second period with -a flurry and scored -two goals. Port settled down after several penalties and scored 2 goals 11 seconds apart. The first by Barkey assisted by Stapleton and Jamie Menzies and then the same trio for the second goal with Stapleton as the trigger man and Menzies and Barkey with the assists. Oshawa scored just before the end of the second period -when smooth skating Cory Banika completed an end to end rush leaving Port's defence and goalie looking for their un-mentionables. The third period featured good end to end hockey and good hard hitting. Port's 6th goal was scored by Brad Menzies assisted by Stapleton. and Brad Traves. Oshawa closed out the scoring in the third period to make the final score Port 6, * Oshawa 4. Stacey Ball- ingall was forced to make many good saves including a clear eut breakaway. The Goreski Bantam '"a"'s start the Play-offs on Sat. Jan. 28th at 8:00 p.m. when they host Bowmanville and then Feb. 2nd Uxbridge in a Round Robin series. The top 2 teams then play a best of three series to see who will advance further in the Ontario Playdowns. The boys are putting it all together at the right time and these past two games have proved that hard work by all hands leads to victory at the end of the third period. Bros. played a strong game to come out on top of a 3 to 1 score over 1st place Larocque Electric. Lions -5 W.Frank-0 Craig Leask led the scoring for the Lions with a hat trick, with singles going to Herb Hatch and Billy Ruddell. With two quick goals by Marvin Hughes and Ron Halligan they jumped into an early lead 2-0, Lewis assisting in Hughes goal. Then they Eagles finish with by Hillis Wilbur On Jan. 14th, the Grant Menzies Eagles played their last sched- uled game against Bow- manville needing a win to finish ahead of Ux- bridge in the league for the extra home game in playoffs, but came away with a 5 to 5 tie and will have to flip a coin for first home game. On the previous Sun- day, Jan. 13 the Eagles had an exhibition game against Pickering and won 8 to 7. Getting the goals for Port were Craig Menzies. with 2, singles going to Dave Culbert, Jim White, Greg Warriner, Steve Durham, Andy Sytsma and Dave Burnett. Pick- ing up assists, Craig Menzies with 3, Dave for the fire works in the second period. IGA got the show on the road as Bobby Orr scored as he broke in all alone, then Jason Bert- rand tied it up-at 1-1. Darryl Bradt then got Cansumers after taking a pass from Kersten. This all came about before Craig Free scored on a rebound from a point shot. The third period start- ed off like the first - a hectic and frantic display of close check- ing, as Jerry Douma got one back for IGA. Mike Kersten got the final goal for Consum- ers after Roane started it off from the end zone on a pass to Turner then arelay to Kersten - final Consumers 4, IGA 2. a 5-5 tie Burnett 2, Greg Warrin- er, Steve Durham, Jim White, Dave Culbert and Andy Sytsma pick- ing up 1 each. On Tuesday Jan. 15th the Eagles played an exhibition game against Markham 'AA' team and lost 6 to 1. Getting the lone marker for the Eagles was Lee Wilbur assisted by Dave Bur- nett. The next action for the Eagles is a tournament in Minden Jan. 26th and then the playoffs with Uxbridge which at the time of this writing, the dates have not been set yet, but will have them for next weeks write up.
