#4 The 7th annual Stedman's Ladies Club Bonspiel was held Saturday in Port Perry with the Louise Haugen team winning the championship frophy. At left in photo are Shirley Barr and Miles Knutson from Sted- mans, presenting the trophy to Louise and team-mates Joan Beare, Judy Mitchell and Niela Skerratt. At right are Dianne Goreski, bonspiel chairperson and Judy Latta, ladies president at the Port Perry Curling Club. Midgets win two, tie The Canadian Tire Midget 2's were very busy this week and showed the fans some excellent hockey. Jan. 8 they travelled to Picker- ing and were on the winning side of the scoreboard 6-5 after being down at the end of the second period 4-2. Jay Van Camp scored the lone marker in the first period assisted by Tim Maw. Second period goal by Willie Edwards from Karl Durham kept Port in the game. The Canadian Tire team came out ~ flying in the third period and fired 4 in the net. Steve Whalen . made many excellent saves in net. Goals were scored by Willie Edwards 2; ~ Chris Lane, Chris Parl- iament and Mike Gib- son. Assists went to Dave Tompkins, Karl Durham and Chris 'Lane. The next night Port hosted Bowmanville for an exciting, close hard- checking game. In net New. for Port was Steve Langille who faced many shots. At the end of the second period, Bowmanville was lead- ing 3-1 on a goal by Willie Edwards assists by Steve Solomon and Karl Durham. Chris. Lane scored 2 unans- wered goals in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Assists went to Chris Parliament with 2 and Blair Phillips. Jan. 12 the Canadian Tire team topped the week off with a 9-3 win over Ajax. Port Perry started the scoring in the first period with 2 goals. Ajax tied the game early in the third period, but Port was hungry for goals and found the mark 7 times in the last period. Steve Langille again played well in net. PORT PERRY STAR -- (vesaay, Jan. 13, ved -- 41 \ Tuesday, January 8th, the Pearce Auctioneers were on the road and played the Pickering Panthers. Port came out pre- pared for a challenge against a strong Picker- ing team. Port had many good rushes in the first period but were foiled by the Pickering goaltender. Early in the second period Pickering scored. The period end- ed with Port down 1-0. With the third period just underway, the line of Davey Bourgeois, Sandy Mark and Scott Heasman had a three man break; but Picker- ing's netminder saved Pavey's rocketing shot which resulted in a scramble in front of the net. But Port came up empty handed. As the period progressed, Brent Harper got a well earned assist on Port's lone goal by Brett Law- son, as he carried it through the Pickering players. The game end- ed in a 1 all tie. Tom Durward and Gavin Carnegie played an outstanidng game on defence and the whole team gave an 'all out effort. In the second period, Uxbridge scored two mark, Port's Davey Bourgeois scored on a hard shot, the assist going to defenceman Novice No.l's travel to Millbrook for a one day tournament. Good luck, = boys!! Bantam B's in 4-4 deadlock On January 7th an ex- hibition game with Little Britain and Sportsland Bantam Bs ended in a 4 all tie. Each team connected for one goal in the first period, Little Britain opened the scoring, with 4:31 remaining. Lally assisted by Leatherdale and Toye had the game evened up. Sportsland took a 3-1 lead in the sec ond on goals by Brown and Gibson with Bailey assisting twice and Gib- son once. Little Britain retaliated early in the third with two unanswered goals. At the 5:33 mark, Port regained the lead on a goal by Feasby with Toye and Lally assisting. With 40 seconds remaining in the game, Little Britain tied the game 4 all. On January 9th, Sport- sland travelled to Picker- ing for a league game, coming out on top of a 3-2 score. Pickering took a 1-0 lead halfway through the opening period, 1:13 later, Bailey ties the game with Gibson and Brown assisting. At the 10:25 mark of the second Pickering regained the lead and it was not until the final minute of the period when Feasby scored on a power play from Brown and Gibson. The final goal by Gibson from Feasby and Brown held up for the remaining minutes of play. Our next home game will be January 18th at - 7:30 p.m. against Ajax.
