oR a mam a ii Rds TN Busy week for the Port Pee Wee A's On Thursday Dec. 27 the Port Perry Legion- airres travelled to Bow- manville to play in the three day tournament over the holidays. Port's first game was aginst Amherstburg and they beat them 3-1 in an exciting game. Jarett Harman scored first for Port with only fifty-six seconds left to go in the first period, the goal 'was unassisted. With a minute and nineteen seconds to go Jarett Harman scored for his second of the game, Brian Appleby and Sean Bradbury assisted. Three and a half minutes into the third period Mark Andrews scored to end the scor- ing for Port, Jan Heyes and Eric Grosvenor assisted. Amherstburg scored their first and only goal of the game with fifty foyr seconds to go. Never-the-less the final score was Port 3, Amherstburg 1. Port vs. Trenton This game was played on the same day as their first game but that didn't slow them down the least bit as they wallopped Trenton 9-0. The scorers for Port were: Mike Feasby 1 goal, 1 assist; Eric Grosvenor 2 goals, 1 assist; Danny Maw 4 goals, 2 assists; Sean Bradbury 1 goal; Jarett Harman 1 goal, 1 assist; Novice H.L. Remax Realty - 2 Davids Hairstyling - 0 On Sat. Dec. 22, 1984 Remax Realty defeated Davids Hairstyling 2-0. Remax scoring Craig Laird and Brent Harper 1 goal each and Ricky Olaisen 1 assist. Kinsmen -3 : Port Perry Printing - 1 In our second game of the day, Kinsmen ended up on top over Port Perry Printing 3-1. The final score again was Port 9, Tren- ton 0. Port vs. Bowmanville -On Friday Dec. 28 Port woke up early in the morning to play Bowmanville but to their dismay they lost five-three. Bowmanville scored five goals in a row then Port got to work and got three back but that was not enough. The scorers were: Danny Maw 1 goal; Sean Bradbury 1 goal; Jan Heyes 1 goal; Eric Grosvenor 2 assists; and Chris Legere 1 assist. The final score was Port 3, Bowman- ville 5. Port vs. Cobourg On Saturday Dec. 29 Port Perry was up against Cobourg for the A-B championship and they were up early again but that didn't seem to harm Cobourg as they defeated Port 5-3. Cobourg scored first then Jarett Harman scored for Port in the second period with Sean Bradbury assisting. Cobourg scored three more - times in the second then in the third period Jan Heyes scored with Danny Maw assisting. Cobourg scored once more -and then Danny Sluggett scored with Mark Andrews and Paul Teno assisting. Danny Maw and Chris Legere were the two represent- atives from Port Perry to play in the tourna- ment ending all-star game. Port Drops UxBridge On Thursday Jan. 3' the Port Perry Legion- airres were host to Uxbridge and they dropped them 4-3. Danny Maw started the scoring for Port five minutes into the first period with Jason Towns assisting. Only a minute and-a-half later Jan Heyes scored from Eric Grosvenor and Sean Bradbury. Then only one minute later off the face-off from Jarett Harman, Brian Appleby slid one between the Uxbridge goaltenders pads from the top of the circle. With Port having a three goal lead they began to let down a little and in return, in the second period two goals and one in the third for Uxbridge to tie it up at three apiece. But only one minute after Ux- bridge's third goal Jan Heyes got his second of the game to put Port ahead and to give them the win, Eric Grosvenor assisted. Port Wins Gold in Beaverton On Saturday Jan the Port Perry Legion airres travelled 1 Beaverton for a single day tournament and walked out the champs. Their first (a ~ against Ennismore and they beat them" 3-0. After a scoreless first period Jarett "Harman opened the scoring f; .Port early in the second with an assist going to Sean Bradhury. Late in the second period Dan Maw scored an unassist- ed goal from the point and scored his second of the game late in the third with assists going to Jan Heyes and Jarett Harman. Paul Kett played well in goal to earn a shut-out. Port vs. Sharon The second game of the day was a real see-saw affair with the lead changing hands several times. Sharon was first on the board with a goal mid-way through the first period \ hte \ ed PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1985 -- 25 but Jarett Harman replied with two to end the period with Port on top, assists went to Dan Maw and Mike Feasby. Sharon came out flying in the second period scoring three times and were answered with only one from Port by Danny Sluggett assisted .by- Jarett Harman to end the period with Port down by one. The third period remained score-"' less until with two-and- a-half minutes remain- ing Dan Maw found the mark to tie it up at four apiece with an assist going to Sean Bradbury forcing the game into sudden death overtime. After four minutes of very exciting play, Dan Maw slammed home a rebound from Jarett Harman and Chris Legere. Port now advanced to the championship game against the host town Beaverton. Port vs. Beaverton Port, after a one game rest, took the final game away defeating Beaver- ton 8-1. The scorers for Port in the first period were Sean Bradbury and Jarett Harman and Eric Grosvenor picked up one assist. The second period was all Eric Grosvenor as he scored three times for Port with assists going to Jason Towns 2; Brian Appleby 1 and Sean Bradbury 1. Beaverton picked up their only goal in the second period on a powerplay. Port walked Petites fall just short in Markham away with the third period on two goals by Jarett Harmen, to give 'him a hat-trick and one more by Eric Grosvenor to give him four for the game. Special thanks to our coaching staff George Legere, John Harman and Don Kett for providing such' a super day. Oh, that was so close! On Dec. 27,28 and 29th the Bruton's I1.D.A. Petites participated in the Markham 3rd Annual Sylvia Houghton Ringette Tournament. The girls played against 2 Markham teams, Barrie and then Mari- posa.- In our first game against Lions Club, Port easily dominated .the game and came away with an 11-2 victory. In our second game early Friday morning we met a team from Barrie who are in their first year of play. Port again domin- ated and came up with a 12-1 victory. In our third game Port played another Markham team - the Kid Line. This proved to be a better and more exciting game with first one team scoring and then the other team scoring. Port finally came out on top with an 8-5 score. By virtue of these 3 wins we automatically went to the Championship finals against our rivals - Mariposa. On Sat. these two teams came out fighting and were evenly match- ed with one team scor- ing and then the other team tying the score, going ahead and 4then being tied again. Ylay continued in this manner until the last -few seconds of the game when Mariposa tied the game at 7 all which sent us into 5 minutes of overtime. Mariposa scored about half-way through the period but our girls kept trying and with 28 seconds left in the overtime period, Kelly Menzies finally tied the score at 8-8! Tournament rules stated that if the score was still tied after 5 minute overtime period rach team would pick 5 shooters and go against 'he goal tenders. If still ied after the first 5 shooters had shot, the teams would pick 5 more shooters. After 30 shots on each goaltend- er, Mariposa came out on top with 6 goals to our 4 and won the Champ- ionship game. What a way to end the game! However, I am sure that . by comments made and" the game that was seen, everyone would agrée that there really were no losers. All of the girls are to be congratulated on the fine game they played! Tracy - what can we say - you made some spectacular saves and certainly kept us in the game!! Scoring for us in this overtime period: were Nicky Beare, Chris Mueller, Danielle Z: per and Kim Poppleton. These are girls who usually don't have much opport- unity for scoring. Although Tanya Towns didn't get any points she certainly played well both on defence and up front. Keep up the good - work girls, we are all proud of you! A special thanks to all of the parents who drove, through the fog and rain to get the girls to the tournament. We would like to thank Bruton's 1.D.A. for our names on the backs of our shicts. We are certainly very proud to wear them. League Play On Sun. Dec. 30 the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites travelled to Lindsay for a league game and came home with an 11-1 to go gipl! Our goal scorers" for" the tourna- victory. Kim Finley played her first game in goal but didn't see much action. Scorers today were Chris Mueller 2 goals; Danielle Cooper 3 goals, 1 assist; Jennifer Morden 1 goal, 2 assists; Amy Parliament 2 goals, 1 assist; Kim Poppleton 3 goals, 1 assist; Tanya Towns 3 assists; Kelly Menzies 2 assists; Tracy Pelow 2 assists and Denna Lov- ering 1 assist. Congrat- 'ulations to Jennifer on her first ringette goal and to Danielle and Kim on their first hat tricks." Nicky, Misty, Kelly and Denna played defence and certainly' made it easier for the others to keep the ring in the opposition's end. As there was still time left to play, the teams played a 12 minute exhibition game. Although the scores didn't count Chris Mueller and Jennifer Morden were able to find the mark. Kim again didn't see much action as the defence kept Lindsay out of her end. On Sunday Jan. 6th the Bruton's I.D.A. Petites hosted the Mari- posa club and were * successful in beating them by a score of 8-3. It was the middle of the first period before Port finally opened the scor- ing with 2 goals before Mariposa scored. In the second period Port tallied -with six more goals. Nicky Beare played goal for her first time this season and made some key saves. Scorers for the day were Denna Lovering 3 goals; Misty Andrews 4 goals; Amy Parliament 1 goal, 4 assists; Tracy Pelow, Jennifer Morden, Chris Mueller, Danielle Cooper and Tanya Towns 1 assist each. Next game is on Sat. Jan. 12 at 8-a.m. against Whitby during our annual Petite - Junior tournament. Come on out and support- these girls. See you there!
