December 18, 1984 Epsom Area News By Jean Jeffery Betty Tapscott Christmas deadlines With Christmas and New Years Day both falling on a Tuesday this year, publishing of the Port Perry Star will be moved-up from Tuesday to Monday. In order to accomplish this we must ask for the co- operation of both our advertisers and news reporters as new deadlines for all material have been set. Please Note: absolute deadline for all ads and news for our Christmas issue will be 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21st. We cannot take any material after that time as production and printing of the paper will take place over the weekend, with the Star being available to the public at or before noon on Monday. The Star will be closed Christmas and Boxing Days, and will re-open on Thursday, December 27 with normal business hours. For our New Years issue, we must once again impose a 5:00 p.m. deadline for all material on Friday, December 28. This issue will be available to the public on Monday, December 31 at 12 noon or earlier, if possible. The Star will be closed on Tuesday, January 1 for the New Years Day holiday and will re-open again on Wednesday morning with our usual hours of business. We know these new deadlines will cause some pro- blems, but we request your co-operation to make things run as smoothly as possible. Darlene Christie was at a pre-Christmas party at the home of her cousin, Linda Littler one day last week. That was: a lovely write-up about Janet Simmonds. The Epsom area should be justly proud of our fine young people. Several attended the Pine Grove Carol ser- vice and enjoyed the lovely music and the beautiful messages by Keis Koster. The Bigglestone's once more opened their home for the annual Christmas Buffet dinner sponsored by the Women's Institute. We are so grateful to them for their kindness. The Christmas Con- cert was held Sun. evening in the church. Good attendance, loads of music, interesting skits. The Youth Group gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kerry Sunday evening for dinner followed by fun and games. The Executive for the UCW are President Eileen Slute, 1st vice Pres. Faye Ashton; 2nd Vice Pres. Elva Kerry; Treasurer Nancy Skeld- ing; Sec. Elizabeth Taylor; Pianist Betty Tapscott. Death at anytime is a terrible shock but when it comes at Christmas it is really traumatic and worse still when caused by 'drinking and driv- ing." We all mourn the loss of Sharon Goslin who lived in Epsom for a number of years. Our deepest sympathy to her husband Glen, her daughter Annette, her mother and all the Imhoff and Goslin families. The UCW had a delightful Christmas dinner. The Sunday School rooms were so tastefully decorated and on the tables a wee gift for everyone. Our guests were Mrs. Dora Geer, Mrs Nora Prentice, Mrs. Herman Kerry and Miss Darlene Christie. As Shirley Baster had been in Mexico for two weeks Heddy Lefebvre and Nancy Skelding prepar- ed a most enjoyable programme. Shirley has much to tell us of the Seminar in Mexico on behalf of the United Church. Darlene Christie and Eva John- son attended a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Fitzpatrick of Myrtle.
