After the impressive ceremony- pictures were taken of the different groups- and a reception followed. A large attendance. and a great evening of visiting with many old friends! Family News A combined anniver- sary celebration and Christmas party was hosted by Norm and Ber- nice Mairs on Saturday afternoon and evening. Besides the immediate family- all Norm's fami- ly were present with the exception of his brother in the West. Quite a number of nieces and nephews were on hand as well. Over thirty in all for this special occasion. After a pot-luck meal with a great variety of food- then the musicians warmed up their in- struments and had a dance. Norm and Ber- nice were celebrating 41 years of wedded bliss and Norm"s sister and husband, Bud and Joyce Virtue of Bowmanville 37 years. Our best wishes for many more to the celebrants. John and Hilda Map- pin, former residents of Nestleton, have moved to Oshawa. At present they are staying with her mother Mrs. Johns of Port Perry. They will be missed by the communi- ty. Our very best wishes to them. Debbie Vine is much improved in health since being involved in a car accident about ten days ago. A good attendance on Saturday and Sunday at Edgar and Anne Emer- son's "Open House' of their Studio Pottery Show at their Nestleton home. Interested folks were there from as far away as Collingwood, St. Catherines, Toronto, Sudbury and Peter- borough, to mention a few. We wish them the best in their interesting venture. Arthur and Carroll Cawker of Sudbury, were weekend guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker at the farm, and attend- ed the Pottery Show on Saturday. Nestleton Women's Institute Christmas Meeting The Christmas meeting of the Nestleton W.1. Branch was held in the Community Centre, 5th at 12:30 o'clock for a Christmas luncheon. Twelve members sat down to a delicious assortment of mouth- watering casseroles- top- ped off with appetizing desserts and tea. The W.I. Grace was sung. After all had partaken of the meal- the meeting was opened by president Norma Frew- with the Ode, repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison, a "Christmas Wish from The Farm" was read, and a cordial welcome to those pre- sent. The Roll Call was answered by each member stating what dessert she had planned for Christmas- along with the recipe. Sec'y-Treas. Marg France read the minutes of the previous meeting- and gave the financial statement. A letter was received from the Sister Institute- Grove W.I. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. December 11, 1984 -- 33 Mabel's on a well-deserved pink cloud from Durham County, . Enclosed was a tea towel and calendar of interest. In return- Nestleton W.l. sent a church calendar and W.1. spoon to the Grove Branch. Many items of business was discussed and decisions made. Cards were signed for the shut-ins. Convenor of Family and Consumer Affairs, Bertha McLaughlin presented thoughts re- the Motto taken from Dr. Ethel Chapman's book 'Humanities in Homespun" and Win- nifred Davison read an article from the same book entitled "Christmas at Home." A humorous reading by Rika Wygerde proved en- joyable. She also related how Christmas was celebrated in Holland- her native land- showing how different it was from our Canadian customs. Carols were sung with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. An educational ar- ticle was read by Bertha McLaughlin- 'Beware of the Market Places' and excellent hints were given as a guide. Meeting closed with O Canada, followed by president Norma ex- pressing appreciation to all for the interesting afternoon.
