' 10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1984 Colour consultant Karen Heustis applies some make-up to Lisa Feasby after a colour analysis recently. Finding the right colours in wardrobe, make-up and accessories can make a person look bet- ter, according to Mrs. Heustis. And it is not just women who are hav- ing their "colours done," but men as well. (See story) Colour analysis for women and men Selecting the right colours in wardrobe, make-up and accessor- ies is important for any woman who wants to look her best. Wearing the "wrong"' colours can actually make a person look older and unhealthy, according to Karen Heustis, a qualified colour consultant who has done more than 100 colour analyses for individuals over the past year and a half. Having your "colours done" is proving pop- ular with women and men all over North America, and Mrs. Heustis, who lives north of Port Perry and works out of the Pink Dot boutique, says it.'s not just another fad or gimmick cooked up by the fashion and make-up industry to hustle more business. Whatever is framing the face "is of prime importan ce" to the appearance of an individual, explained Mrs. Heustis as she demonstrated a colour anyalysis last Friday atternoon. What colours people should wear or avoid is determined by the colour of their skin undertone, which can either be blue or yellow, depending on the individual. Wearing the "wrong colours' can actually make a person appear fatigued by emphasiz- ing the lines in the face, bags under the eyes or blemishes. The "right" colours can have the opposite effect, says Mrs. Heustis. Having your "colours done" (including make- up tips and hints on wardrobe planning) takes a little less than two hours, and the first step consists of a thorough cleansing of the skin on the face. ~ With the "subject" : | | eicioioioioisioioioboioiok SPECIAL HOLIDAY HOURS | 18 help make your Holiday Season easier and less hectic, we are extending our post office hours so that we can better serve you. These "drapes" are a full range of colours, from hot reds and oranges to neutral earth tones and basic black and white. Mrs. Heustis says that a qualified consultant can see which colours detract from a person's appearance, based on the skin's undertone. In all, seven different sets of drapes are used, each with four colour tones to it. While Mrs. Heustis says that most people can wear a pretty wide range of colours, there are certainly colours to avoid. A person with a blue skin undertone, for example, can wear red, but not bright orange. Once the anaylsis is complete, the person recives a wallet packet containing patches of all the colours which are suitable. This makes for easier wardrobe shopp- ing as the colour patch- es can be matched to blouses and dresses on the rack. But it's not just the colour of clothing. Make-up, glasses, earings, neekiaces, scarves, stockings, even shoes, can be matched to a person's colours. Men are also . having their "colours done," and in fact some television ~ Stations insist the on-air announcers match their wardrobe to their colours. People of all ages, from teen-agers to senior citizens are tak- ing the consultations. Mrs. Heustis says is some cases, women who have been wearing the same colour and style of clothing for years make a dramatic change and suddenly feel a lot better for it. '"There is no reason why middle- aged women have to wear dusty antique shades, or older women have to wear dull grays and blacks," she said. Ruth Foster, who along with 19-year old Cheryl Feasby were the "models" for the colour analysis last week, said she is delighted with the results. She changed her wardrobe, looks better and feels better. "I went to a retirement party and a lot of people commented, so I guess it has helped me," she said with a smile. She added that maybe part of it is psychologi- cal, but added, "I don't care, the point is I feel and look better, and that's all that really counts."
