Actually, the three net- works have been on the Compton Cable system for the past few weeks and available to any subscriber with a con- verter on the TV set, as the cable company has been setting up and testing the equipment used to bring pay TV to customers. Pay TV has been available in larger urban areas of Canada for the past couple of years, but the industry got off to a rocky start as one network folded within a year and two others- First Choice and Superchannel- were forced to merge. Mr. Compton said the $15.95 per month pack- age price is much more attractive for cust- omers. When the net- works first went on the air, each channel cost that much. He also said the system hasn't been made avail- able here until now because of the substan- tial capital investment required on the part of the cable company.
