Nov. 24th and 25th the Port Perry Chris Allan Aluminum Tweens, travelled to Stayner for their annual tournament and were successful in bringing home the gold, with flying colours. The girls With a convincing 7-1 victory in the final | played their first game at 10 a.m. on Sat. morning, and after this game, everyone knew that Port was the team to beat. The girls came out skating fast and shooting hard, and beat Richmond Hill by a score of 9-3. The score doesn't indicate the real pace of the game, as it was a well-played interesting game. Kerri Allan made some key saves, and the defense shone, stopping the ring at the first blue line again and again. Scoring was handled by Kelly Calloway with 4 goals, 1 assist; Melissa Moehring 1 goal, 2 assists; Heather Lawrence 3 assists; Jenny Blanchard 2 goals; Lisa Levy, 1 goal, oF r "All that practise this summer must have paid off," said a grinning Councillor Lawrence Malcolm, after sinking a hole-in- Goaltending was superb one shortly after this picture was taken. Eagles win tournament On Saturday Nov. 24 the Grant Menzies Midget Eagles partici- pated in a tournament in Wellington. In the first game the Eagles came up against a strong team from Napanee. Port however, came out on top 1-0, on a goal by Rob Baker assisted by Dave "Cub" Culbert. Excellent goaltending at both ends made for a fast, hard hitting affair. Goaltender Bill Eade, in one of his finest efforts of the year, earned the M.V.P. for this game. In game number 2, the Eagles, came up against arch- rivals Uxbridge. A strong effort by the Eagles with the much emphasized coaching from Doug Scott the Eagles came out on top 6-2. Goals by Dave Burnett, Steve Durham, Lady curlers here Dec. 3 The S.OL.CA. District 15 Provincials Competition will be held at the Port Perry Curling Club December 3rd to 6th, 1984. Teams from Bowmanville, Dalewood, Lakefield, Norwood, Oshawa Curling, Oshawa Golf, Peterborough Curl- ing, Port Perry and Whitby will be competing. Ron Brown and 3 for the M.V.P. John Harman. Drawing assists were Bob Goble with 2, Lee Wilbur with 2, Dave Burnett, Scott Burke, Craig Menzies, Jim White and Andy Syts- ma. In the final game Port came up against Picton. Port came out strong in the first when Dave Burnett ripped a blast by the goalie assisted by John Har- man and Andy Sytsma. Picton counted twice, before Port scored at the end of the first. Dave Culbert from Steve Dur- ham and Craig Menzies. Port went ahead when Craig Menzies scored on a pass from Chris Cook- man. Ron Brown scored the insurance marker on a pass from Jim White and Greg Warriner. Dave Culbert won the M.V.P. for the throughout the whole tournament these boys played well both offen- sively and defensively. The goaltending was superb throughout the whole tourney. In league play the Eagles lost two exciting hockey games to the Oshawa 2nd Major team 1-0 and 54. Goals for Port were Jim White, Dave Culbert, Greg Warriner and Dave Burnett. These boys have been consistantly improving all the time and are starting to play hockey the way they are cap- able of playing. Home games are Monday nights at 8:00 p.m. Come out and support the Menzies Eagles and Port Perry Minor Hockey. 1 assist; Michelle Beare, Jackie Durham, and Kim Caudle each with 2 assists; Jennifer Pelow 1 goal and Connie Norton with 1 assist. This win matched Port against a team from Barrie at 6 p.m. Sat. night. Port arrived ready to play, and won by a score of 9-1. Again the score doesn't indic- ate the closeness of the game, and this game was the best one all weekend. After the first period, Port was ahead 3-1, and the fans were screaming and yelling, as they bounced up and down. Port really start- ed to play hard in the second period, and it paid off, with 6 goals being scored. Kerri Allan played a solid game in net, and again the defensemen, Cindy Harris, Nicole Slack, Jennifer Pelow and Michelle Beare really showed their stuff. Scoring for Port was Michelle Beare with 3 goals, 1 assist; Kelly Calloway 2 goals, 1 assist; Lisa Levy 1 goal, 2 assists; Jenny Blan- chard, Jennifer Pelow, Jackie Durham and Rachel Traynor, each with 1 goal while Kim Caudle and Melissa Moehring each picking up 1 assist. Our next game was Sunday, at 2 p.m. against Markham. Kerri Allan played a super game, really deserving the shutout she received. Port's offense came up with 9 goals, to advance us into the championship with a 9-0 score. Kelly Calloway scored 4 goals; Lisa Levy, 1 goal, 2 assists; Jenny Blanchard and Jennifer Pelow, each with 2 goals, while Kim Caudle, Michelle Beare, Heather Lawrence, Jackie Durham and Rachel Traynor each picked up 1 assist. This put Port in the championship game at 4 p.m. where we came up against Richmond Hill again. Tweens strike gold at Stayner tournament Although Port receiv- ed quite a few penalties in this game, nothing seemed able to stop them. Kerri Allan again played a solid game with lots of help from defensemen and lots of scoring from the offense. The final score was 7-1, and there were 14 happy girls, 3 happy coaches and about 40 crazy fans. Michelle Beare scored 2 goals, 2 assists; Kelly Calloway 2 goals; Jenny Blanchard 1 goal, 1 assist; Heaher Lawrence and Rachel Traynor each scored 1 goal with assists going to Kim Caudle, Nicole Slack, Jennifer Pelow, Lisa Levy and Connie Norton. Congratulations to the girls and many thanks to all the fans who supported us throughout the tournament. Our next game is at 6:25 on Sat. Dec. 1 against Woodville, so come on out to the Port Perry Arena and see this team in action. Port Atoms feast on visitors 10-1 On Friday Nov. 23, the Malmont Farms Atoms hosted Port Hope in another league action, game and came away with a wopping 10-1 victory. In the first period Jason Cochrane opened the scoring with the assist going to Brad Moase. In the second period the Malmont Atoms scored three more unanswered goals. At 9:41 Jody Logan scored with the assist going to Lindsay Parry. At the 7:50 mark Duane Empringham slid the puck into the net with the assist going to Jeff Parry and Chad Gar- vock. With only 26 second remaining in the period Jody Logan scor- ed his second goal of the night with the assists going to Sean Mec- Enaney and Lindsay Parry. In the third period the Green Machine put their act into high gear and scored 6 more goals. At 10:24 Sean McEnaney scored with the assist going to Jody Logan at 7:47 Duane Empring- ham scored his second goal of the night with the assist going to Mike Sluggett and Jeff Parry. At 6:21 Peter King scored his first goal of the season (Good work Peter) with the assist going to Jason Coch- rane. At 4:57 Jeff Parry scored with the assist going to Chad Garvock, then with only 37 sec- onds remaining in the game Jeff Parry scored his second goal of the night with the assist going to Duane Em- pringham and Chad Garvock. Brad Moase ended the Green Machine attack at 10 goals with the assist going to Jason Coch- rane. The Malmont Atoms are in for a very busy upcoming week as they will be playing three league games on Tues- day, Wednesday and Friday. Then on Sat- urday and Sunday they travel to Bradford to play in their second tournament of the season. Let's keep up the good work! Juniors win big in Stayner event The Sportsland Juniors came home victorious from the Stayner tournament. After losing the first game Saturday to Cam- bridge 7-4 they never looked back. First game Sunday they met their arch rivals Whitby and won handily 8-5 on goals by Sherry Harris, Val White and Heidi Meis- ner with assists by Tina Soomre, Jo-Anne Desautels, Jessica Fluke and Anne Finch. Three hours later they met Richmond Hill and with a score of 9-2 took the consolation round. Scoring this game were Sherry, Vicki Reid, Val, Colleen Yorke, Heidi and Tina with assists by Colleen Scala and Kim Loudfoot. With one trophy under their belts the girls took on the winners of the Championship round, Rosedale. And after a hard fought, well played game came away with the Grand Champion- ship trophy and medals on a score of 9-6. Well done girls!! Ene
